Hammer's splash screen
If you're already familiar with the Hammer editor and are looking for general mapping help, you can go to the Level Design category page.

The Valve Hammer Editor is the tool used for designing levels for Source engine games.

It can be used for:

  • Creating level architecture - geometry, texturing, and lighting.
  • Placing models (props) created in 3D modeling packages, such as XSI.
  • Placing entities for gameplay.
  • Scripting gameplay entities with Inputs and Outputs.
  • Adding AI navigation nodes for NPCs.
  • Compiling and running game levels.
