Please stop rapid edits

Hey man, you seem to be making a lot of changes very rapidly to the newLight Point page, and many of them seem to be incomplete. Just letting you know that its generally not advised to save changes after every edit. the "Show Preview" button does everything the "save changes" button does, but it doesn't publish the changes to the live page. This prevents clogging up Recent Changes and improves general workflow. Just a heads up. --Equalizer5118 (talk) 17:24, 21 Sep 2023

#NoHEAVY FILES

You quite often publish very heavy files for this wiki, as far as you know, it works quite sloppily. Many files weigh more than 50MB, pages take a long time to load, I hope you understand that others are also trying to read the article, for reference, a workaround is needed... Many of the files for the demonstration simply do not work, I logged in from different devices, it worked terribly.... --NOUG4AT (talk) 13:35, 25 Dec 2023

When static images weigh a lot, that's a bad sign. 10 MB for images where there is no alpha channel, convert to jpg, or, as a last resort, compress the image (for example, lowering the resolution, etc.), because sometimes this is not always required from the image (a super-high quality).[1][2][3] --NOUG4AT (talk) 14:43, 22 Feb 2024

Item_crate needs screenshot(s)

Item_crate is marked with:

Nuvola apps ksnapshot.png
This article or section needs a screenshot to help visually convey the subject.
You can upload screenshots at Special:Upload. For help, see Help:Images.
Just thought to let you know, since you seem to be the person to ask for Black Mesa Black Mesa related images. --Wisdurm (talk) 20:48, 7 Jun 2024

The person who adds the mark ? I'm not the person who adds the mark. Wish to see more Black Mesa Black Mesa related images in other pages ? Currently I'm documenting other things related to this game. I will improve the pages (the pages which is isn't by me) when the other things will be documented first, + when I'll have enough free time (I'm very busy in this month). --MyGamepedia (talk) 08:24, 8 Jun 2024

Image uploads file size

Hi! Moderator here. It has been brought to my attention that you are uploading a large number of heavy files on the wiki. Moving forward, and to avoid file deletions, consider optimizing your images to reduce the file size. Thanks!-Peter Brev (talk) 03:24, 22 June 2024 (PDT)

Hi! The issue is that there is not much ways what to do. Pictures aren't issue, but gifs are pain. All the gifs are already compressed (each manually) to 20-80 mb, lower will cause them to look... very bad (just like this). And this is 3 mb, not 1 mb (which asked Cvoxalury).

This wiki doesn't support videos (you can't even public .webm or any other video file formats).

YouTube isn't good workaround, there is no way to use external links and show video in VDC page. I was using external links to videos while I was adding more info about lens flare properties (https://developer.valvesoftware.com/w/index.php?title=Env_lensflare&diff=338019&oldid=334475 - old version of env_lensflare page with the external links to videos). This way was very inconvenient, because you need to get out of page to just look what a thing does, and then back, and the same again, and the same again... until you fully read such page. I was looking for alternatives, gallery + gifs was good enough.

This became a problem when I started adding lots of gifs and pictures for newLight_Point page. Even me was filling huge lags. User:Jofoyo suggested me to use .jpg instead of .png, this helped a lot. After this, compressed gifs (each manually), some of them now looking like videos from 90th, but this also helped. User:Equalizer5118 also added scroll boxes and changed gallery height values to smaller, so, I'm not having any problems from this time (only User:NOUG4AT was asking for compressed images).

No one was asking for compressions, before this day.

The most weird moment - long before me there were pages with a large heavy files, waterbullet for example, the gif is 60 mb size and no one was asking for the file compression.

If you have any solutions, like Go to this site (link) and use it to compress your files and don't lose the quality. or Write the next code to have videos in VCD page: MYCODE. - please suggest. I don't want to quarrel with users on these issues.

Just a note: I will not remove my gifs/pictures. I spent an incredible amount of hours for creating them (map/commands cooking, video recording, converting to gifs and compression, publishing, writing code for them). Animated images are often needed to show something that is complex or not obvious (or for something is difficult to explain with text). - User:MyGamepedia 15:12, 22 June 2024.

If you don't stop uploading all these unnecessary gifs, you will get blocked. Of just the 50 most heavy files on the wiki, almost all of them are yours. Almost all of them just show some bug while crying to Crowbar Collective (as if they look at it!), or some graphical fancy. If it's "difficult to explain with text", ask someone who has a better command over text and English.
The excuse that "it was compressed down to 20" is meaningless, because 20 is far more than the wiki should be handling.
"No one asked" is not a valid argument. No one cared or no one noticed is the reason. That's not an excuse. Just 20 of your gifs combined take up over a gigabyte of size on Valve's database.
You also abuse the gallery tag to insert huge previews of badly put together screenshots (with MS Paint, HUD or console spam in them). They are unnecessary distractions.
That VDC doesn't support videos, is apparently a blessing, because if it did, people like you would upload a gigabyte worth of videos to showcase some glowing rays.
If you can't abide guidelines, then ask someone for help on the talk page. You will just get blocked for abusing the system otherwise.
Just plain honesty: you're making the articles way, way worse. Cvoxalury (talk) 06:59, 22 June 2024 (PDT)
And not having Youtube preview is not a valid excuse. If people want to they can click on a link to see the information. The wiki is for dedicated people who want to learn in the first place, not for fun browsing. Cvoxalury (talk) 07:02, 22 June 2024 (PDT)
"ask someone who has a better command over text and English". Not smart sentence... Who cares about me ?
"20 is far more than the wiki should be handling". but it also allows to upload even bigger files.
I don't think that console spam or HUD is bad thing in pictures. This does not prevent you from getting the information you need from image.

So, you are suggestion YouTube as a compromise. Okay. I'll re-upload all the gifs (if not having Youtube preview isn't problem), this is not hard to me. Now I just want to wait for a response from the moderator. MyGamepedia 17:27, 22 June 2024.

Preamble: A full response can be seen on my talk page User:Speedvoltage. The way I see it is that the combination of all gifs uploaded exceeds morally tolerable limits. Yes, the wiki may allow high file size limits, but you shouldn't have to upload gifs or other files that large. Yes, doing those GIFs took a while to do, but since you recorded those clips, you can safely put them on YouTube. I don't think it's going to bother that many people to temporarily have a new tab open. I will be deleting those GIFs to free up space, but I will give you enough time to migrate them to YouTube. Please make sure not to upload further heavy GIFs or other heavy files on the wiki moving forward. Apologies if this is not what you wanted to hear, but I believe this is the most reasonable solution. Let me know if there is additional information that I need to know. Cheers! --Peter Brev (talk) 13:54, 22 June 2024 (PDT)

Your screenshots... again

Other than compressing your screenshots and turning off the HUD, can you also turn off developer mode? Console spam is distracting for a screenshot like the ones you usually upload here.--Commando of Booce (talk) 05:23, 5 July 2024 (PDT)

I assume this command works in Black Mesa and might be useful to you BindToggle . r_drawvgui. Then you just press . to turn gui on/off Nescius (talk) 05:25, 5 July 2024 (PDT)

Explain more

Explain why npc_xorteb, npc_alien_slave and npc_vortigaunt in Black Mesa are not the same thing. "They're not same" description does not explain much so I'd like to know more.

FGD's are not reliable source so I don't recommend editing wiki based on FGD only. FGD does not list any I/O for npc_alien_slave but all three of these entities have identical Inputs and Outputs when checking in-game using ent_info. I think their keyvalues are same too as ent_dump displays XortState keyvalue for all three of these entities but FGD shows that it's only for npc_alien_slave. Gameplayer (talk) 04:01, 24 September 2024 (PDT)

Hello! I just checked to see if this is true (~5 min. ago). I tested Fear Levels and Xort Internal State keyvalues, all 3 ents shows the same results. So, yeah, you was right, they are same, + the class is one and same for all 3 (CNPC_XortEB).

npc_alien_slave_dummy and npc_xort are still different ents (classes are also different).

I'll undo the change. (MyGamepedia) 17:07, 24 September 2024 (PDT)

I created a new page just for Black Mesa vortigaunts npc_alien_slave because the information on original page about vortigaunts differ very much from Black Mesa vortigaunts. I added the same AltNames notice there with a bit more info so I believe the notice from original page can be removed completely. Gameplayer (talk) 07:27, 24 September 2024 (PDT)
It would be nice to save the AltNames note in npc_vortigaunt page, so, peoples are warned that they can't use this entity in the same way as hl2. (MyGamepedia) 17:31, 24 September 2024 (PDT)
On a second thought, yes, that's a good idea. Gameplayer (talk) 07:34, 24 September 2024 (PDT)
