MediaWiki Upgrade Issues
(using Template:Message) The MediaWiki upgrade to version 1.31.10 has introduced a few bugs to the wiki.
- Live previewing of edits is currently broken. Attempting to preview edits with the "Show previews without reloading the page" preference enabled gives the following error:
- An error occured while attempting to preview your changes.
API error: unknown_useskin - This appears to be an issue with the skin. A Wikimedia phabricator task lists the error for a seperate skin, Cologne Blue.
- The preferences page has broken styling and now renders as a solid block of gray.
- Highlighting revisions in a page's history causes the text to turn black instead of white, making the text much harder to read.
Please fix these. --Deprecated (talk) 00:39, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
User LoKkdoKk is abusing translated pages
(using Template:Message) That user (LoKkdoKk) is checking many many Russian-translated pages for deletion although they are translated pretty good and do not violate any rules. It's like you dedicating your own time to make the wiki better but that user just ruins it. --Romgerman (talk) 16:20, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) You'd have better luck sorting that out with him on his User Talk page.

Can't upload new images
(using Template:Message) I registered and confirmed my e-mail like 4 years ago and I uploaded some images back then, but now I can't. It doesn't look like anyone else can upload images either. --Lady-Natalya (talk) 14:08, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
Can't update existing image
(using Template:Message) I'm trying to update File:Blender smd dmx flex.png. Every time I hit Submit I'm redirected to Special:Upload and the image is unchanged. --Artfunkel (talk) 06:05, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) I can't upload new images either.
--Artfunkel (talk) 14:35, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) This should be fixed.
--JeffLane (talk) 00:04, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
Image upload broken again
(using Template:Message) I'm getting this error:
The upload directory (public) is not writable by the webserver.
--Artfunkel (talk) 10:40, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) This should be fixed again.
--JeffLane (talk) 19:08, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
Autoconfirmed user permissions?
(using Template:Message) The email autoconfirmation seems to be broken, or broken in my case. Could I get added to the autoconfirmed users group so I can upload images? Thanks. --Petethegoat (talk) 14:54, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
New wave of spam
(using Template:Message) Once again spammers have targeted this site. It's still going on as i write this. Is there anything that can be done about this? Based on what i'm seeing, anti-spam measures could be taken by checking for long page titles with large amounts of identical contents (e.g. one page had most lines start with "NORTON"). The link protection check is mostly useless since it only has a dozen or so questions that are easily matched. Could accounts perhaps be tied into Steam itself? Perhaps that will stop them, if Steam's own anti-spam measures can stop them. --Solokiller (talk) 09:22, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) It seems another wave has "launched", currently totaling somewhere around 1450 edits and growing. Mainly preventing people from reading recent (actual, important) changes.
--Fayti1703 (talk) 22:20, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) Still going on as of now.
--Solokiller (talk) 20:51, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) I wonder if we should start flagging them already or just wait until it ends and then do something about it... Only destructive thing I've seen so far is changing $emissiveblend, which I have reverted just now.
--Fayti1703 (talk) 12:46, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) These attacks seem to occur on Fridays to maximize the exposure so the changes are included in search results. If we flagged them now that would prevent this from happening, but i've seen bots overwrite the same page multiple times. I think it's best to just let the admins handle it. Given that the latest measures put into place are ineffective, i think they'll need to use another approach to solve this problem. Enabling moderation for new users could help.
--Solokiller (talk) 08:52, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) A suggestion I'd like to add is limiting the max number of new pages from a certain user account and/or ip address. (Though the spammers would probably find a way around that too)

Can't make new page
I tried to create Navigating_with_the_camera:jp but it has been banned from creation as it matches a spam blacklist entry.
Could I get the permission to create the page? Thank you. --EmptyLot (talk) 19:47, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
I tried to create Navigation_Meshes:ru but it has been banned from creation as it matches a spam blacklist entry.
Could I get the permission to create the page? Thank you. --Berry (talk) 10:07, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah I can't create page "List of TF2 Navigation Mesh Attributes" since it 'matches a spam blacklist entry'. - Amicdict (talk) 18:13, 22 July 2021 (PDT)
- Same with Category: Navigation Meshes that I'd like to create.
I have set this wiki's language to German in my account's Preferences and when trying to create the page, I get a different error message, which I guess has been overwritten manually in English:
The title collides with the banned expression: .*a.?v.?g.* (in other words: every title that contains avg with at most one character between two of these three characters).
So due to that expression, any page with the word Navigation in its title cannot be created. Has that expression something to do with spamming? —Unsigned comment added by Popcorn (talk • contribs) Always sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~)

FIX -> Atom/RSS feed XML validation error
(using Template:Message) RSS link in Recent changes page.
XML file contain extra "spaces or newline characters" at first row, which brake RSS feed.
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/w/api.php?hidebots=1&days=7&limit=50&action=feedrecentchanges&feedformat=rss
Could someone fix it ? --Bacardi (talk) 07:35, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
PLEASE READ: Anarchy?
(using Template:Message) I just checked with Special:ListGroupRights. The last edit from a wiki user with any special moderation privileges was about a year ago if I'm not mistaken. How do we handle this? Should we poke somebody at Valve? --Pinsplash (talk) 05:11, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) _I just emailed Jeff Lane's business address. That SuicideJoy person is the last straw I am interested in having with evil-doers on this website. The mediawiki software on this wiki is probably not up to date, so any of the things they have uploaded to the wiki should be treated as an unassessibly high threat_
--Pinsplash (talk) 02:38, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) Threat is over. No word back from Valve yet.

Can't create templates or upload images with the word "chaos"
(using Template:Message) I'm trying to set up some templates and upload icons of the "Chaos Source" engine my team and I are working on. Seems like the word "chaos" is on a blacklist? --Tewan (talk) 9:40, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) Indeed, I noticed this as well. Note that it's only blacklisted if "chaos" is at the start, so for like images it should work to just call it Icon chaos source.png or something. But this will cause problems if you try to create Chaos Source or Chaos Initiative pages. Not sure why it's on there in the first place.

persistent spammer
Medidix is constantly editing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Authoring Tools with a bunch of spammy shit. A ban would be appreciated. 9yz (talk) 11:27, 7 May 2021 (PDT)
He got blocked, thanks 9yz (talk) 09:54, 11 May 2021 (PDT)
Greetings everyone, your old pal here back with another comment. Today is a new day, a cool day. So just be ready, ok?
Can't edit some sections of a page
Rayman1103, I was trying to update the ScriptedDamageInfo table of L4D2 EMS/Appendix: Functions, but was unable to even preview! Strangely, I could edit another section of the page, but not the whole article. There appeared a Cloudflare page asking to email the site owner, but I'm not even sure who he is. Alexiscoutinho (talk) 12:41, 24 August 2021 (PDT)
- It turns out that there is a bizarre bug in the site where you can't write "scripted" after "<", in other words, you can't concatenate them: "<" + "scripted"! Alexiscoutinho (talk) 18:54, 27 August 2021 (PDT)
Oh, and how can I sign my comments with the proper timezone (UTC)?
- Use four tildes in rapid succession to sign comments with the time and date. - Amicdict (talk) 20:45, 27 August 2021 (PDT)
- Template:Re I know that part, that's how I've been signing my comments thus far. Alexiscoutinho (talk) 06:08, 28 August 2021 (PDT)
(using Template:Message) I wanted to rename Bot Navigation for Counter-Strike:Source:jp so that the name is consistent with the english counter parts, and so that {{lang}} will actually work on it. However it seems Navigation Meshes:jp got blacklisted. --Amicdict (talk) 22:36, 30 August 2021 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) That should be the same issue as here.
--Popcorn (talk) 11:18, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Please remove the Testers page.
(using Template:Message) As another user said on the Talk page, Testers is no longer serving a useful purpose, and is just advertising a bunch of emails for bots to scam. --Thebeanie (talk) 01:34, 19 Jan 2022 (UTC)
Suggested edit to protected page "Displacements"
(using Template:Message) While working on a map for Portal, I discovered a bug where players (and presumably other entities which can go through portals) cannot collide with displacements while near an open portal. This can cause things to get stuck in the ground easily if there are portal surfaces near terrain for any reason. This can be easily circumvented by just using clip brushes that are close enough to the shape of the terrain to not be noticed. While the fact that it seems to not yet be mentioned on the page implies that this is not of much importance, it's obviously of some use at least since I found out about it in the first place.
--TinyDeskEngineer (talk) 18:14, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) Also, the {{Otherlang2}}
template on that page should be replaced with {{lang}}
.
--Kestrelguy (talk) 21:09, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
Suggested edit to Main Page
(using Template:Message) there's a significant number of translations for the main page that aren't linked from the English version. switching the {{Otherlang2}}
template out for {{lang}}
would basically automate the process of adding links to translations, without actually needing to edit the page any more.
--Kestrelguy (talk) 21:09, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
(using Template:Message) Now you can edit with the edit button to the right top. --1416006136 (talk) 18:44, 8 Apr 2023 (UTC)
