Bro

(using Template:Message) How, DARE you edit Template:Portal games to add desolation before I did? I was LITERALLY just about to add it when you edited it! I cannot BELIEVE THIS!

JK, thanks for the work my man :)

(using Template:Message) Dude I was so scared when I saw the "You have a new message" popup appear, my mind was already awaiting a warning or something. Glad to have helped with wiki --Wisdurm (talk) 20:41, 15 Dec 2023 (UTC) --Equalizer5118 (talk) 20:31, 15 Dec 2023 (UTC)

Failed edits...

(using Template:Message) Double-check your bot's edits, I accidentally discovered the following errors on these pages, maybe that's not all... Cycler, Color_correction_volume, db_camera_collision --NOUG4AT (talk) 13:47, 4 Jan 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) Thanks for the heads up! I already noticed the problem with cycler, but the two other I hadn't noticed. They're both quite weird bugs caused by either pages not having much content or being really weirdly formatted. Nevertheless, I'll be sure to fix them. --Wisdurm (talk) 13:52, 4 Jan 2024 (UTC)

Ability to use API

(using Template:Message) How long did it take for your bot to become able to use the API? Autoconfirm on Wikipedia takes 4 days but you seemed to be able to use the API sooner than that. --PeeBot (talk) 23:00, 4 Jan 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) I'm not entirely sure how it all works, but you should be able to do most basic API actions immediately, that's at least my experience. The VDC is obviously quite different from Wikipedia in a lot ways. From my knowledge being added to the Autoconfirmed users group takes 5 days, I think (and hope since WisdomBot isn't in it yet), based on this. This however does not limit usage of the API much. I'm using the DotNetWikiBot Framework, and the only problems I've ran into is not being able to create pages (since there's a check as to whether you're a bot, which the API can't do) and not being able to move pages, both of which are due to not being autoconfirmed. My advice is to just mess around in your user sandbox and see what you're allowed to do. --Wisdurm (talk) 0:23, 5 Jan 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) That sounds right, for some reason I thought your bot was autoconfirmed. I'm using the same framework, and it appears that I can create pages if I use my main account. --Pee (talk) 0:37, 5 Jan 2024 (UTC)

Thankful

(using Template:Message) Hey thanks for finding the errors, to be honest it was terrible for me... Also for improving the templates. I did everything in a hurry with the desire to make a lot of “good” edits, as a result I had to make more corrections. BUT thank you again, also regarding your bot, after seeing your experience, I myself decided to make something similar. Nice actually, I like your implementation by the way.

(using Template:Message) No worries. I've definitely also done a good amount of haphazard edits to the wiki just to do something "good". Also sorry for my demeanor on the message on Thunder4ik's page, I definitely came across as way too rude.

(using Template:Message) Everything is fine :) I myself may have been rude when I pointed out some failed edits to you, but overall, your comment was very useful :) --NOUG4AT (talk) 20:20, 5 Jan 2024 (UTC) --Wisdurm (talk) 19:56, 5 Jan 2024 (UTC) --NOUG4AT (talk) 19:46, 5 Jan 2024 (UTC)

Strange thing

(using Template:Message) I don’t know if you need to know this, but I found one problem on this page after editing your bot, I can’t say what it’s connected with, it’s a strange thing, if anything I fixed it. Thing Removed closed }} (flags)

(using Template:Message) Yeah I know, I only found about the bug and fixed it later, so some of the earlier edited pages might have that problem. Its thankfully nothing big, but still rather annoying

(using Template:Message) Thank you, ok, keep it up anyway! Good work. --NOUG4AT (talk) 7:09, 7 Jan 2024 (UTC) --Wisdurm (talk) 23:51, 6 Jan 2024 (UTC) --NOUG4AT (talk) 19:28, 6 Jan 2024 (UTC)

Mapbase Mapbase abuse

(using Template:Message) Hey man, about this. I used a template for optimization, to be honest, I don't think it should be done that way. I did it because someone else did it, so I decided to improve someone else’s edit, but I don’t think it’s necessary. I think we can get rid of it, hundreds of MapBase links are really not very good... For example, I was just looking at an article from an vanilla Wikipedia about Wikipedia icon motherboard (the topic is not important) -> motherboard words is not highlighted... which should say something. Also, the dude who started these edits today did very strange actions, for some reason duplicating the old code, or adding unnecessary templates. --NOUG4AT (talk) 17:26, 9 Jan 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) Yeah I supposed so. As for Utopic Tahu, they seem to be trying to make pages better. I don't think they're a vandal, but just someone who doesn't quite know how pages on the wiki should be written. Wikipedia icon You should typically always assume good faith --Wisdurm (talk) 17:50, 9 Jan 2024 (UTC)

VTFEDIT RELOADED

(using Template:Message) I feel like I’ll have to write to you every time after edits)) I thought that there was no need to indicate the original authors (since it is indicated that this is a fork). --NOUG4AT (talk) 14:30, 10 Jan 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) Yeah honestly I don't think it's needed either, I just quickly copied the text from the other persons edit because I wasn't sure why you undid it. I assume it was because the edit made the infobox look a bit shite. Also I think you could've just removed the original authors and left your message as the edit summary instead, if there was any disagreement after that then I think a message would be worth it. Nevertheless, thanks for notifying --Wisdurm (talk) 14:37, 10 Jan 2024 (UTC)

Does Mapbase belong on Template:branch-navbox?

(using Template:Message) Hey man, I'm asking all active editors of the VDC to respond to the survey on my user page on whether or not Mapbase is an engine branch or not. I would like it if you submitted a response! --Equalizer5118 (talk) 17:04, 12 Jan 2024 (UTC)

Time logic

(using Template:Message) Hey! I see that you tried to realize a time logic (userbox for...), i don't know how it can help you, but... i think that it can be useful for this:
some skits
|2:05pm, March 23, 2023 ''({{#expr:({{#time:U|now}}-1676627100) / 86400 round0}} days and counting)'' |2:05pm, December 19, 2010 ''({{#expr:({{#time:U|now}}-1292767500) / 86400 round0}} days and counting)'' --NOUG4AT (talk) 18:15, 1 Apr 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) My suggest to do smth in next format: {{userbox User for | year=2023 | month=12 | day=25 | hour=10 | minute=30 | second=45 }} But the countdown should be right from today --NOUG4AT (talk) 18:28, 1 Apr 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into this. --Wisdurm (talk) 18:50, 1 Apr 2024 (UTC)

Automation

(using Template:Message) Hey, I want to ask you, as a pioneer of automation on VDC, if you could write about your bot here and share its source code. I believe that your contribution is a very valuable and useful experience. If you don't mind, I'll be glad. Automation --NOUG4AT (talk) 19:09, 4 Apr 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) I'm not quite sure what I would write on the page currently, but I'll see what you're doing with the page, and I'll also try to come up with some ideas for what to write. As for source code, that's a bit annoying to set up due to how DotNetWikiBot works, and because of how messily my code is written, however it shouldn't be very difficult nor time consuming so I'll probably do it some time soon-ish. Thanks for writing. --Wisdurm (talk) 23:06, 4 Apr 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) I've made some updates to the article. You can review it now; I believe it will be beneficial to eventually transition it out of the user space. I've included some details about your bot, so please feel free to correct any inaccuracies. I noticed that you've altered your bot's objectives to generate entity lists from FGDs, which is fantastic! I'll explore other similar tasks that can be automated and get back to you on whether your bot can handle these additional tasks. I've also mentioned the GoldSrc FGD file converter. I'm continuing to work on it. --NOUG4AT (talk) 10:54, 5 Apr 2024 (UTC)

Ideas

(using Template:Message) Hello Wisdurm, do you have any ideas for automating any actions with bots. For example I was thinking about the following:

  1. replacing moddb links with moddb template
  2. creating automatic references from external links (not section) in the article (in VDC there are often external links right in the content (beginning) this breaks the structure IMHO)
  3. Automatic UTF-8 correction and grammar correction

What do you think about any other operations? I'm just wondering if I might try it if it's something worth doing. --NOUG4AT (talk) 18:18, 13 Apr 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) Here's what I personally think:

  1. Seems like a good idea, as it looks better and it's always good to organize specific things into templates so they're easier to change in mass
  2. This I do not think is a good idea. The point of the references section is to house, references. So while some external links fall into this category, others may not. Say for example there is a page that is talking about a tutorial on another site, and it has a direct link to the tutorial. While this would technically constitute a "reference", it would also be much easier and more intuitive for the reader to go to the tutorial through a link in the sentence, rather than through a small note[1] at the corner of the text. I think changing external links to references is something that should still be done manually when appropriate.
TLDR: I think references should be used to backup sentences and perhaps to provide "additional reading", but when the reader is expected to click the link, it would be much simpler for it to remain as a simple hyperlink.
  3. Sure. Assuming you trust the grammar tool to not correct site specific terms like "antlion" to "ant lion", then I see no problem. --Wisdurm (talk) 18:32, 13 Apr 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) Thank you; however, I have not succeeded in any of these operations... so far. Therefore, I wanted to learn something new from you. Btw, I was also considering implementing a link archiver. However, I am unable to address the issues that arise. Thx, btw, for moving the page; I made a slight adjustment to the Help:Contents, If you have any other ideas for scripting or bot operations, do not hesitate to suggest them. Although I may fail, after hundreds of failures comes success, a truth I've encountered more than once. I'll just be glad to hear your suggestions. --NOUG4AT (talk) 18:40, 13 Apr 2024 (UTC)

Can you help with your bot.

(using Template:Message) Can you cancel last edit on SteamCMD:pt-br with your bot, cuz' i'm receive 403 error... --NOUG4AT (talk) 17:59, 17 Apr 2024 (UTC)

(using Template:Message) The bot unfortunately receives the 403 as well. If the latest edit was by the spammer I could use the Revert() method but since SirYodaJedi made an intermediate edit I can't use that. --Wisdurm (talk) 18:22, 17 Apr 2024 (UTC)
