Not tryna be controversial, just stating opinions

(using Template:Message)  Hey there, not tryna be controversial, but i just don't think this template belongs here. Gender is not really a thing that is a necessary topic for a wiki about mapmaking and game design. We don't really need to know the gender of some random mapper editing the env_sprite page to add an obscure bug, and it just seems like one more thing that can start arguments and strife. The last thing I want is to have someone be in an edit war and be like "Oh shut up <insert gender-specific offensive term here>". If this was around in the time of User:HammerEditor, that whole argument would likely have gotten a lot messier.

Again, not tryna be hateful or anything, I just don't think that it belongs here. --Equalizer5118 (talk) 15:57, 25 Aug 2023 (UTC)

I say this because the other userboxes are useful for helping to understand different things:

  • The country and language userboxes can help to understand why a suer may have bad english grammar or why they only edit during certian times
  • The code proficiency userbox can give users an idea of who to contact for coding or template help
  • The link template can tell other users where to contact the user if they don't check their discussion page often

This template does not fall into the categories above. The whole reason why companies like ValVe have not lost significant amounts of players to controversy like other game companies or games (Call of Duty for example) is because they realize that those topics have nothing to do with their games or software. Steam doesn't need to be on either side, its just Steam. This wiki doesn't need to include these topics, because its just room for more controversy to start.

Once again, not trying to be hateful or anything of the sort, I just don't think it belongs here. --Equalizer5118 (talk) 16:26, 25 Aug 2023

(using Template:Message) I also believe that this template on this wiki is out of place. Firstly, knowledge of gender does not matter here at all and should not matter. Everyone is equal. Furthermore, why not broaden its scope to include androgyne, demiboy and transgenders? These are also genders. If we adhere to the current trend, then the existing number of genders is unacceptable. I think each wiki should be limited to its own area. This wiki is specific to Valve projects and related content, not general topics. --NOUG4AT (talk) 7:59, 25 Feb 2024 (UTC)
