TF2 Beta

Shouldn't this be edited now that the beta of TF2 has been released? --Lons0r 16:16, 18 Sep 2007 (PDT)

<3 Valve

Just a light-hearted jab at our favorite developer. We <3 U, Valve. Really.

Still, what does it do at the VDC? --dutchmega 14:33, 1 Jun 2006 (PDT)

Don't worry about it..—ts2do 16:00, 1 Jun 2006 (PDT) I think that as long as it's good clean fun and not a piss take it's ok--RP 16:06, 3 Jun 2006 (PDT)

Gabe on the Wiki

Lol Gabe just edited the page..--Gameexpertmaster 15:10, 26 Jul 2006 (PDT)

"Rapture"? noob cannon lol 15:32, 26 Jul 2006 (PDT)
Wikipedia:Rapture see wikipedia. Pretty much it's something that happens right around the end of the world :)- RodeoClown 15:39, 26 Jul 2006 (PDT)
Woo! now this page is official =p—ts2do 16:03, 26 Jul 2006 (PDT)
I think all VALVe staff have a bit of a laugh, sometimes—DogGunn 05:17, 4 Aug 2006 (PDT)
  • Great, Gabe probably posted this as a memo for all employees to use as reference! --AndrewNeo 09:25, 14 Aug 2006 (PDT)

At least "When it's done" isn't 2999... I'm curious, "Tomorrow : At 10:00 Pacific", does that mean 10:00 PM Tomorrow or 10:00 PM Today or what? --Kateye 21:40, 5 Oct 2006 (PDT)

  • "Holiday Season" - I think it should be something like "The time between Christmas to Thanksgiving"--RP
No, see, that's normal Marketingese. Valve said Ep2 would be out during the "Holiday Season", but has since revised that to "Easter Holiday Season". That's why Valve-Time's "Holiday Season" is "Next Year"--Kateye 18:51, 19 Oct 2006 (PDT)

Combine pages?

There are at least 3 pages for valve time. This is the biggest. Can we combine them all into one? - Welsh Mullet

Cheap humor isn't funny and should be removed

I agree. you guys are ruining the page--Lons0r 07:28, 6 Oct 2007 (PDT)

I recently found out that you fail at editing talk pages.--Baliame 17:40, 6 Oct 2007 (CET)

Took the liberty of decapping the headline. --OVRKLL 02:43 PM, 30 October, 2007 (UTC)

Old entries

can someone please remove these two new entries:

  • September 17th -> April Fools Day!
valve released tf2 - what do you want? there's nothing funny about 17th of sep.
  • In the next Hour or Two. -> See September 17th.
tf2 was released within an hour after valve posted "in the next hour or two" - nothing funny.

SIzzLeopard 02:55, 18 Sep 2007 (PDT)

Imho, a days delay isn't really a significant delay. I know how eagerly some people wait for the releases, but in all honesty, these small, small delays happen, and shouldn't be anything to fuss over (unless someone at Valve swore on their mother or something). Relax! --Andreasen 07:05, 18 Sep 2007 (PDT)

What delay? Valve said they release on 17th and they did - 23:30 is still 17th and NOT 18th. and please but in links for other people can laught tooSIzzLeopard 12:29, 19 Sep 2007 (PDT)
Lol. Hey, VALVe even poked fun at themselves in 'Still Alive', The song that plays at the end of portal. If you can't laugh at your self at times, you're stupid. --JeffMOD 06:51, 24 May 2008 (PDT)

A Gag Category?

I'm wondering... I've seen two "gag pages" on this wiki now - Teh hammre and Valve Time, and I'm wondering if we could give them their own gag category, to make them easier to find. --Andreasen 05:35, 20 Oct 2006 (PDT)

Considering some contributers' over-seriousness about this site I think we should stick with them as they are before some white knight decides to remove them entirely in the name of democracy. And yes, this post is just to terminate this three year old one-entry discussion. --OVRKLL 02:39 PM, 30 October, 2009 (UTC)

What games are with what dates?

To be able to verify the dates, could we have some sort of discreet column explaining what game the delay concerns, possibly on the talk page? Otherwise, people will be able to make all sorts of claims. --Andreasen 05:10, 22 Sep 2007 (PDT)

I think that some, if not most of them are just random stuff which aren't related directly to a specific game, but just trie to capture the general idea, I don't see any reason to change it, aslong as everyone gets that this is good fun and nothing more.--RP 11:46, 22 Sep 2007 (PDT)
The good fun comes from the list consisting of actual citations. There's nothing funny about just calling them slow if there is no support for it. This list can get long enough without making stuff up. --Andreasen 11:50, 12 Feb 2008 (PST)

Cleanup and references

I have made a slight cleanup of the page and added the references to some of the dates. I would be nice if someone added references to the other entries in the article, because I just don't understand them :) --DrKoljan 08:19, 23 Nov 2007 (PST)

However, cleanup is NOT removing half the goddamn page. --Baliame 08:26, 23 Nov 2007 (PST)
Even if half the page is useless and confusing? --DrKoljan 08:29, 23 Nov 2007 (PST)
A gag article is meant to be useless. --Baliame 08:30, 23 Nov 2007 (PST)
The Duke reference fits just right, please don't remove it. --Tourorist 08:31, 23 Nov 2007 (PST)
If something is interesting to read, then it's somewhat useful. However, unreferenced and meaningless statements are not interesting and therefore are useless. The two entries about the release of Episode Two are unnecessary because there is already an entry with the first release date announced and the actual release date. The "Coming Soon" is a bit off-topic IMHO. --DrKoljan 08:43, 23 Nov 2007 (PST)
This page was made to make fun of VALVe's weird release shedule, even Gabe Newell contributed to it. So don't edit it. Solokiller 10:43, 23 Nov 2007 (PST)
It becomes funnier when the info is real and sourced... --DrKoljan 05:05, 24 Nov 2007 (PST)
Isn't Gabe editing the page himself enough of a source? This isn't wikipedia, THIS IS DEV WIKI! lol. Solokiller 06:26, 24 Nov 2007 (PST)
Gabe editing a page doesn't make the page blessed. I know it's not Wikipedia, but having some real info like the release date of Half-Life 2 (2003 -> 2004) instead of confusing bullshit (In the upcoming months -> Never: what is it about) makes the page funny and interesting. Yeah, maybe I'm just missing the point about some of the entries, but I'm sure there are other people who are new to Half-Life and Valve and would like to know why the article is so sarcastic about the Valve time. That's why I added the links to the HL2 and HL2:Ep1 entries. --DrKoljan 01:16, 25 Nov 2007 (PST)
It's not supposed to be used for actual reference, that's why it's so sarcastic. Solokiller 04:38, 25 Nov 2007 (PST)
How about simply leaving this article alone? --Baliame 04:47, 25 Nov 2007 (PST)
Please tell me you're taking the piss. --TomEdwards 14:28, 23 Nov 2007 (PST)

Rudeness

The most recent addition seems rude...Agree? --wisemx 05:30, 29 Dec 2007 (PST)

Yeah, before anybody adds stuff they should put it here for discussion first. Solokiller 05:59, 29 Dec 2007 (PST)
Agreed with Mark and Solokiller. --Jurgen Knops 06:11, 29 Dec 2007 (PST)

In A Few Minutes

This was a volunteer moderator and not a valve employee, unless there's a better source for 'a few minutes' it's not quite Valve Time IMO --Nephyrin 21:01, 30 May 2008 (PDT)

Monday-ish

Whoever put that link to the heavy page that says Monday-ish, thanks. After countless failure trying to make a link I forced myself to settle with Tinypic.com. Good work! --Goodguy3 20:47, 18 August 2008 (EST)

Valve being...Early?

Check it http://teamfortress.com/post.php?id=2096 "In a few days" apparently means, In an hour.

Think we should add this? :3

I think we sho
meteor-hitting-earth.jpg
Heh I didn't realise it was an hour lol... Or was it??Update news on Steam was the 12th, that doesn't seem 1 hour early? I think I saw on the TF2 forums it was on the 10th, then I saw the 11th lol. Idk, maybe it was early :) --Craziestdan 19:42, 11 Dec 2008 (PST)
Yeah, for once they surprised us, so an early entry could be cool. I'll just add it, feel free to remove it if you wish. :) --Sortie 11:07, 12 Dec 2008 (PST)
Accurate Valve Time?

22 Years?

TF2 has definitely not been in development for that long. It's a typo.

Or a joke? (Sign your damn posts! --~~~~) --Remmiz 00:50, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

L4D2 Demo

Should the l4d2Demo really need to be on this page before it's even released; therefore does not have an 'actual' release time. It is being tracked here Valve_Time_Tracker --Olly.ginger 20:59, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

I think the l4d2 demo info should be compressed to one row. It is kind of spamming the list at the moment.--cheesemoo0 01:38, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
That's kinda the point... Valve kept delaying it by small amounts which is characteristic for this variant of Valve Time. --OVRKLL 02.33 PM, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Actual VALVe quote

"As often happens, we emerged from thirty minutes of Valve Time, covered with bed sores and sporting full beards, to discover weeks had passed." ...should that be added or atleast linked to in the article since VALVe wrote it? --Ilr 22:42, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

  • Added it. --Abcorn 02:28, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Description column

This article would be more interesting if there was a third column that said what was delayed, ie "release of TF2" or "announcement of polycount contest winners". People should need to follow the links to get the context. I'll add it if there are no objections. StrangeQuirk 15:52, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Is Left 4 Dead 2...

...the only game of which they released the game on the date they promised they would? --BreakingAtTheHinges 20:08, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

"Valve Time" is pretty passe these days, it hasn't really been applicable in any real sense in a long time, Episode 3 not withstanding. The huge majority of their release dates are met within a reasonable range (few minutes, hours, etc.), but people just love to exclaim "LOL VALEV TIME" when a release date is more than 0:02 seconds late. People also think that they can call Valve Time when their timezone hits the time, but it hasn't gotten there in PST. Not to mention that it's only a valid call of Valve Time, when they specify a date, miss it, and then call another date. --Msleeper 21:24, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Didn't they push back Portal 2? And I guess you haven't heard of The Sacrifice, which was... four months late? Thelonesoldier 23:28, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
To my knowledge, Portal 2 has always been February 9th, but I don't particularly follow the very human shortcomings of Valve very closely. There are some people who call Valve Time because it says February 10th for them, but again, blame timezones for that one. It shows up as February 9th for us here in the states. --Msleeper 05:00, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
This very article indicates it was originally slated for holiday season this year. Missing deadlines is human, yes, but the point here was that it's part of the definition of VALVe and they still do it. Thelonesoldier 05:52, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Lord Vaders "proof"

So some random guy called "Robin" tells Lord Vader that some fix is going to be in the next update, and Lord Vader thinks he's from Valve? Am I missing something here? Is Robin a well-known Valve employee? Do we even know for sure when this picture was taken? I'm tempted to remove that whole entry. --MossyBucket (formerly Andreasen) 07:49, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

I guess we are to assume that it was Robin Walker, but a screenshot of in-game chat is hardly proof of identity. And even if it were, there is no time stamp to reference when the chat occurred. --Tehrasha 09:53, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
Not to mention that it is not an official announcement. This is at best just one employee promising one player - "Robin time" at best. --MossyBucket (formerly Andreasen) 10:02, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Portal 2 SDK

As we are on the Valve Developer Community wiki itself, seems we should list how long it took between "a SDK will be released soon after" (or whatever the actual quote was) and when the Authoring Tools Beta was released (or are we still waiting for the non-beta Authoring Tools?).

(I just figured out, Valve Time must be were they get the idea for puting their protagonists into stasis. A decade for Gordon, a century for Chell... a millenia for us?) --Max Power 13:16, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Valve stopped working on it in 2007, right? May be add

Portal 2 DLC

It's past Mid-September now and we still don't have the DLC. I'm guessing that'll need to be updated when the DLC does come out. --ZedoMann 14:27, 26 September 2011 (PDT)

Do you think Valve Time needs a picture?

Valve Time is a very difficult concept to grasp since we're not working within the confines of our senses. Do you think that an artists rendition of Valve Time can help people understand how it relates to the rest of the universe and even themselves? Here are some examples of helpful visual aids (quality varying):

  • Mr. Newell interpreting VT in his lab: [1]
  • A professional artist's version of VT stressing the fabric of space-time: [2]

Naturally, the number of artist renditions are lacking. I thank you very much for your time and look forward to your thoughts on this matter. --ThaiGrocer 12:47, 4 October 2011 (PDT)

Limited time

The two Limited time entries should have a starting date in my opinion, for completeness. edit: or a linked reference --Moooh! 05:40, 10 December 2011 (PST)

Ticket Information from the International

They said on the ticket sales that the tickets and information would be emailed to the purcharsers no later than June 30th, I got my email on July 12th and as you can see on the news in dota2.com, they sent them on that day. I would post this myself but I've never edited a wiki before.

- I added it. I got my ticket on the same date also --Jimo July 24 18:37:15 (PDT)
