Founded in 1995, Akella (Русский: Акелла) used to be the major game developer and publisher (which unofficially earned the name "EA of Russia"), until Postal III Postal III came out which was developed by their subsidiaries, Trashmasters and published by Akella with resources from Running with Scissors.

This game, and, along with the effect of Great Recession which happened in many countries, including Russia, and many other bad decisions made in the company such as firing it's development teams, this caused the company to went bankrupt and it's employees getting laid off. Subsequently, in Nov 2022, Valve has delisted Postal III Postal III from the Steam store due to the game using a DRM which the DRM servers are no longer online, aswell as lacking support due to Akella, while technically still exists, has gone bankrupt long time ago. Postal III eventually was re-released on Steam after what remains of Akella gave RWS some access to the Store page of the game, then RWS & Zoom Platform worked together on adding patches from the Zoom Platform version of the game to Steam.

The company is also known for publishing Left 4 Dead Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 Left 4 Dead 2 in Russia. Other popular and well known games from US and other countries published by Akella for Russian market including: Assassin's Creed series, older games from Postal series (POSTAL 1 and 2), Resident Evil series and much more.
