Summary
Comparison of real normal maps (left) vs "baked" normal maps (right) on static props in Source 2013 (some vanilla jeeps from Day of Defeat: Source) (with -StaticPropLighting
and -StaticPropPolys
, enabled in VRAD of course). Note the difference in lighting on the jeep which is partially underneath the bridge.
This lighting restriction was removed in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and as such does not apply to games using the CS:GO engine branch or Strata Source.
