Valve Developer Community:Moderator elections
Hi: You have been accepted as a moderator. Please be sure to read up on Help:Etiquette and Valve Developer Community:Terms of Use.
I'd also personally recommend that you set your signature to your name or on-wiki username just to minimise confusion. PabloS (talk) 12:18, 18 June 2024 (PDT)
Stopping THE OWL
Hi.
I'm here to ask you to block THE OWL to prevent any further damage to the wiki.
I'm sure you've seen the discussions during the Moderator elections.
- They've shown time and time again that they do not want to listen and back up. They claimed they want to fix their mess or go away, but the next day they start asking for more and more changes and access.
- The Valve contractor admin already called out their mess as unholy and singlehandedly causing havok, yet it doesn't seem to calm them down the slightest. The promise of 'I'll continue working in July' sounds nothing short of a threat at this point.
- They want to change things while appealing to strawman argument like 'all modern designers'.
- Now they even directly admit they're trolling. ("I'm just messing with you")
For the best of the wiki and to prevent any more tampering, please take action.
P. S. I apologise if I'm misusing your own talk page for this moderation appeal. I'm not sure where they would otherwise go, these kinds of requests? Should I instead host it on the Noticeboard? Cvoxalury (talk) 05:18, 19 June 2024 (PDT)
- Hi! You and everyone else are welcomed to use my talk page for this. There is no restriction really. I have monitored the situation for a while now and seeing the recent discussions, it seems clear to me that THE OWL is at the center of attention and multiple people seem unhappy with the wiki updates. I also have a hard time seeing what page I should go to to make a simple minor edit due to nested templates. After careful consideration, I have blocked this user temporarily. Let me know if things do not seem to improve moving forward. Peter Brev (talk) 06:27, 19 June 2024 (PDT)
Limiting upload rights
Hello again. Are you able to affect other users' upload permissions?
There's User:MyGamepedia who seems to have a habit of shamelessly uploading multi-mb gifs to illustrate things on BMS-related pages. At first I saw a couple and wrote about the on Reasons for speedy deletion, then I noticed it goes far deeper.
Check NewLight_Point/en, for example. From the history it's obvious they are the main contributor, and it's filled with huge pics (mostly poor quality, with developer strings and HUD on) and heavy gifs that illustrate some one particular point like a minor shadow bug. Even their tiny, 320p gifs easily add 5 megs to the page.
If their upload permissions can be changed, I suggest forbidding uploads entirely. They were already warned about gifs months ago on their talk page, nothing seems to have changed. Cvoxalury (talk) 11:37, 21 June 2024 (PDT)
- Hey again! Sorry for the delayed response. I checked the user's contributions and can see what is going on. I checked what tools I had to stop this, but I don't have the power to alter a user's permissions. The best I can do is block/ban and remove (including mass delete) contributions. I sadly can't check all the uploaded gifs and images, but are those file uploads used in articles? If not, they needlessly take space on the database for no reason and I'll delete them. I'll send them a message as well about that.Peter Brev (talk) 03:13, 22 June 2024 (PDT)
