Director's Cut is a 3D animation tool built as a mod for
Source 2013 running on
Mapbase. This software is under active open source development through GitHub.[1]

History
The project, lead by KiwifruitDev, began development in May 2022 after discussion within the Source Filmmaker community regarding the desire for an open source version running on the Source Engine had sparked interest.
An attempt was made to license Source for the project for a Steam release, however the request was declined. Due to the similarity to Source Filmmaker, the software was ultimately not permitted to release on the platform.[2]
From June 2023 to September 2023, development had been paused until it had been reset in October 2023 after switching to Mapbase from Alien Swarm due to VGUI limitations and overall instability.
