The Active Area Set (or AAS for short) is a concept in the navigation mesh of the Left 4 Dead seriesLeft 4 Dead series Left 4 Dead series. It is the set of Navigation Areas surrounding the Survivor team. The AI Director creates/destroys population as the AAS moves through the environment.
