Left 4 Dead series
The Left 4 Dead series is a series of cooperative first-person shooter survival horror video games published by Valve. Set in the days after a pandemic outbreak of a viral strain transforming people into zombie-like feral creatures, the games follow the adventures of four survivors attempting to reach safe houses and military rescue while fending off the attacking hordes.
History
It started development as a side project called "Terror Strike" by Turtle Rock Studios during development of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, and continued development alongside
Counter-Strike: Source, before eventually becoming its own project as
Left 4 Dead. Due to sharing a codebase with Counter-Strike and Condition Zero, the game DLLs for were "accidentally" pushed in a Steam update on November 23, 2023, before being quickly replaced with the correct DLLs.[1]
Left 4 Dead was followed by
Left 4 Dead 2 the following year. Plans for a third game were scrapped due to the
Source 2 engine not being ready at the time.[2]
