Any more questions Jupix? Cubedude 17:26, 5 Mar 2006 (PST)

Heh, not at the moment, but in the near future I probably will have, don't worry :) Jupix 21:26, 5 Mar 2006 (PST)

Yo dog, whats with the different language on the other page. lol, what if I want to read it. lol. Cubedude 11:02, 6 Mar 2006 (PST)

It's Finnish. In a nutshell, it says "I can do the prop for you if you'd like" - "Fine with me, VMF" :P Jupix 11:07, 6 Mar 2006 (PST)

Image formatting

You may want to look at the edits I made to Cordon compiling and Fog tutorial. It shows you have you can use the tag <br style="clear:both"> to control image flow. You can also find information about it at Wikipedia:Help:Extended image syntax --JeffLane 12:05, 6 Mar 2006 (PST)

OK, I'll give it more thought in the future. Sorry. Jupix 23:27, 6 Mar 2006 (PST)

Thanks for contributing lately, Jupix!—ts2do 15:08, 6 Mar 2006 (PST)

UIBugs reorg

Although the reorganization effort is appreciated, and I don't mean to discourage you, but there's a few issues:

  • When doing something like this, you really need to use the Move function on the page, not paste the contents into a new page. The history for UIBugs was not moved, neither was the talk page. Same with UIOpinions.
Acknowledged. Please remove User Interface feedback, I will move UIBugs to that location. Same for User Interface feedback/Opinions. The pages cannot be moved until the new ones are deleted. Jupix 21:15, 19 Mar 2006 (PST)
  • The /sub-pages are unnecessary -- it would be better to keep the names short and without subpages, like "User Interface bugs", "User Interface feedback", "User Interface localization issues", etc.
Are you absolutely certain about this? You can always create redirects, and IMO, it's better to have all the categorized pages (in this case, the articles) subpaged. If you're worried about the pages not showing up on Go/Search, that can be fixed with redirects. Jupix
  • The news posts at the top of the page of UIBugs was not transferred? These seem rather important.
It cluttered the page so much that I created a new article for it: User Interface feedback/Bugs/ClientBetaChangelist. Jupix

I reverted UIBugs and UIOpinions until this can be rectified. --JeffLane 17:36, 19 Mar 2006 (PST)

I will be fix these in the evening. Thanks for not deleting the stuff I already did :p Jupix
Hi. Can you also revert User_Interface_feedback/Bugs/Localization_issues/French to the previous location and set up a redirect, if required? There is no need for a four-level nesting of subpages, if the categories above French are empty and other languages have not undergone a systematic QA. This also breaks External links to this page. Please contact the contributors of the affected pages before moving content around. Please also delete User Interface feedback/Bugs/ClientBetaChangelist as it duplicates info on UIBugs. --Pb75 02:21, 20 Mar 2006 (PST)
In short: no, I don't think I will. You see, IMO, there's no reason to not make the French localization issues a subpage. As a matter of fact, I think it is very illogical if it's kept separate from all the other bug report pages as it was before. And, the reason it is a single article is because it is so long - if any of the other languages will gain a bug list this long they will deserve their own pages as well. And as I noted above, External links will not break as long as the old articles are kept in place. Internal links I have updated already.
As for User Interface feedback/Bugs/ClientBetaChangelist, it will also stay. UIBugs, on the other hand, will not as I will move it to User Interface feedback and update the contents.
If you have any further comments on this, please feel free to voice them. Jupix 05:19, 20 Mar 2006 (PST)
I reverted the changes to the French localization pages. These changes were too large to make without further discussion. Perhaps you misunderstood my explanation when I said you did not need subpages. I meant it was fine to have separate pages, but subpages are different. Wikipedia:Subpages are literally long title names with slashes "/" in them. They add hierarchy to the site that is usually not necessary in standard articles because links, category pages, and disambiguation pages already serve that purpose. Look around the site and you'll notice that there are almost no subpages outside of user pages. This is because the heavy lifting of organization is done by links between pages and category pages like Category:Feedback or Category:Modding. --JeffLane 09:42, 20 Mar 2006 (PST)
Yes, I know what subpages are. The main reason I like them is that they tidy up category pages by putting related articles closer together instead of scattering them throughout the alphabet (sort of like the Creating Grass / Grass Creation issue). So, if there's two separate pages under the same topic, it's natural to put the more detailed article lower in the hierarchy (in this case, French localization issues would go under localization issues which goes under bugs and so on, the end result being that a user doesn't have to guess where to start looking for the article, it's basically linked to from everywhere, plus it's right next to the main articles in the category view). Do I make my thoughts clear? Jupix 10:29, 20 Mar 2006 (PST)
Your interest in keeping things organized really is appreciated, but this is exactly what categories are for. Sub-categories can even be added if pages need some kind of further grouping if the category listing has gotten too large to find articles. Wikipedia went through the subpage model years ago and switched to the category model due to its greater flexibility. Subpages essentially hard-code a single category name into the article title, which is undesirable and inflexible, and make simple linking of pages much more complex and error-prone. --JeffLane 13:43, 20 Mar 2006 (PST)
Okay then, I understand your opinion (doesn't mean I share it). I guess we will be adding more categories then and reducing subpages. But, bear in mind, we still desperately need subpages and article splits in some articles, you cannot completely discard that habit. Jupix 05:26, 21 Mar 2006 (PST)
Jeff, many thanks for looking into this. --Pb75 00:16, 21 Mar 2006 (PST)~

People I've pissed off so far..

  • Pb75 — sorry for moving your articles!
    • No worries, mate. It's all sorted now. Keep up the good work. —Pb75 06:19, 24 Mar 2006 (PST)

New userpage

he, did I set a new trend for super-duper userpages? :P Anyway, the links to jupix.info don't seem to work. --Vaarscha 09:12, 24 Mar 2006 (PST)

Hey, don't get all grandmaster OldMember on me! Isn't super-duper-userpages the natural way to for everyone? ;)
All joking aside, you might be, I've checked your page before.. Thanks for the subconscious ideas :P
About jupix.info, weird, it works in this end.. Also seems to load on a remote pc I have SSH access to.. Have to look into it (unless it already started working for you too) Jupix 09:27, 24 Mar 2006 (PST)
Oh well, maybe your webspace provider doesn't like my IP or so. I can even find your page in google, but can't connect to it - host not found :/ --Vaarscha 10:41, 24 Mar 2006 (PST)
Here the same thing.. Can not found page. But a few days ago I watched your page, and clicked the link.. when the link was working well. --Jurgen Knops 10:46, 24 Mar 2006 (PST)
Could be time for a reboot... I'll have to take a look at it later. Jupix 14:50, 24 Mar 2006 (PST)
Site is already up now.. :) --Jurgen Knops 23:44, 25 Mar 2006 (PST)
Wow.. I did nothing :p Jupix 01:58, 26 Mar 2006 (PST)

New primitive images

All the new primitive PNGs that you have uploaded are black and white, with the smallest degree of flat-shading. Is this a problem with my browser's PNG rendering or are they meant to look this way? Without textures on the brushes, it's pretty hard to discern the three dimensionality of the shape; you can only distinguish the silouhette. Giles 07:19, 1 Apr 2006 (PST)

They do have textures.. They're just pretty dark. If your display is calibrated to be very dark, no wonder they look black and white.. Maybe what you need is a new calibration. I doubt your browser has anything to do with this. Jupix 07:24, 1 Apr 2006 (PST)
There's nothing wrong with my display calibration. Brightness and contrast are on full, everything else I've had on my screen has displayed fine in recent memory! To be able to see the texture on your PNGs I have to load them into Photoshop and then up the contrast by about 40 points, and the brightness by at least 20. Otherwise they literally appear almost perfectly black on white (in both FF1.5 and IE6).
I guess the only way to know whether the problem is my computer or not is to wait and hope someone chimes in with a third opinion. :) Giles 07:36, 1 Apr 2006 (PST)
Yup, it shouldn't be that bad.. Jupix 07:39, 1 Apr 2006 (PST)
I had no problems with the rendering of the PNG's. But maybe for others it's to dark. Maybe you should use a kind of 'dev' texture for them. Like the orange measure walls. --Jurgen Knops 10:42, 1 Apr 2006 (PST)

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday. :) Giles 01:33, 26 Apr 2006 (PDT)

Thx :) Jupix 06:14, 26 Apr 2006 (PDT)

Clean up

When you add the clean up tag to an article, you should post something on the discussion page why you have done so. A clean up can mean too many things, just posting the tag is no big help to a potential editor or the author of the page. --Vaarscha 01:35, 29 Apr 2006 (PDT)

  • Done. Sorry. Jupix 05:45, 29 Apr 2006 (PDT)
OK, good work ;) --Vaarscha 05:52, 29 Apr 2006 (PDT)

Convert WAD to VMT

I moved this page back here because it's the way Hammer lists it in the file menu—ts2do 21:37, 1 May 2006 (PDT)

Ummmm, NO. First of all, in Hammer, it's Convert WAD -> VMT, not Convert WAD to VMT... or whatever. So you need to still keep renaming it if you are to keep it as it is. See, I was talking about the old version of Hammer. You can tell I don't have Hammer available right now... Anyway, TFA is a tutorial, not even counting the fact that it's about converting a whole level WITH textures, the process of which is irrelevant to the article if it's only supposed to be about the Hammer conversion function. I suggest you make separate articles for the glossary-type Convert WAD to VMT... and the WAD to VMT conversion tutorial. Maybe even rename the latter to WAD to VMT conversion with textures or something. Whatever you do, don't leave it as it is, unless the process described in the tutorial is now basic functionality of the Hammer tool. Jupix 00:10, 2 May 2006 (PDT)
Well...this needs to have documentation in Category:Hammer Tools and should be listed as it is in Hammer. I don't oppose splitting it into reference and tutorial though—ts2do 13:41, 2 May 2006 (PDT)
Well, I agree. I'll do the split soon, then, as I strongly dislike the way it is now. Jupix 10:21, 3 May 2006 (PDT)
Can you call it Convert WAD to VMT Usage?—ts2do 18:12, 3 May 2006 (PDT)
Not really as it describes not only the Convert WAD to VMT... function but other stuff as well... I moved the tutorial to Goldsource to Source content porting tutorial for now, as it better describes the contents. Also, there's now the Category:Hammer Tools entry at Convert WAD to VMT... Jupix 05:49, 5 May 2006 (PDT)

Anchor redirect

Redirecting to an anchor does not work. Nothing we can do. See Wikipedia:Help:Redirect#A redirect to an anchor. --AndrewNeo 09:50, 5 May 2006 (PDT)

Yeah, I kind of gathered that when I changed them all and not one worked.. I'll begin reverting shortly.. Jupix 10:27, 5 May 2006 (PDT)

Mod

Are you currently working at a mod or just some freelance mapping? --dutchmega

I'm not officially on any mod's developer list, no.. So I'm pretty much a freelancer, I guess. I really haven't had time to map in months. :( Jupix 08:53, 6 May 2006 (PDT)

thanks

thanks for the advice on proper posting, i would have never realised otherwise. i cant see beyond the edge of england you see, so thanks for the advice! game4ever

Cleanup Tag

If you are putting the Cleanup tag on an article, please remember to leave a message on the article's talk page saying why (even if it's fairly self-evident). --Giles 05:50, 11 May 2006 (PDT)

Um, no. You (and every other member here for that matter) know very well why the tag is there. There's absolutely no need whatsoever for clarification in an article like that. I do understand the need for it if a tagged article is already wikiformatted and seemingly "clean" but that is not the case now. For more info, check the help link in the box... Jupix 06:16, 11 May 2006 (PDT)
Now that you brought this up, I added a link to wikipedia in the template... Jupix 06:44, 11 May 2006 (PDT)
People have been offended on previous occasions when Cleanup tags have been slapped on their articles with no explanation. It's not a matter of it being obvious, as I said. It's about avoiding being rude and lazy. Sure "every other member here" understands it, but what about new contributors? Just putting "Cleanup" on an article says "we don't value your contribution" to them. --Giles 07:27, 11 May 2006 (PDT)
Every single time anyone has gotten offended I have explained to them in person that tagging an article for cleanup, be it general or pov cleanup, is not meant as an offence. I have no plans for discontinuing to do so. Jupix 07:44, 11 May 2006 (PDT)

TutPOV at Client_Command_by_Trigger_proximity

Hey Jupix, I saw (after 5 seconds) that you've made some changes, and a note, at my mini-tutorial about Client_Command_by_Trigger_proximity... I altered it, sometimes a little, sometimes a little more... Could you look at it again, and make a note on my userpage on what I should change even more? Thanks in advance! --CrabbyData 02:48, 14 May 2006 (PDT)

Yes, it's fine now.. Good work! Jupix 03:04, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
This was my first (released) tutorial, so I had to adjust my 'standard'-way of talking/writing... It's difficult, but practising brings good results ;) Thanks for the note(s) --CrabbyData 03:07, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
No problem! Avoiding 1st person in tutorials is sometimes quite tricky, as you may have noticed, but you'll get used to it..  :) Jupix 03:09, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
^_^ Thanks again! But are my tables worked out good? Because these were the first one I ever created... Thanks again, for all your help --CrabbyData 03:13, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
They're certainly sufficient, though User:0.51 has created some templates for tableing entity configurations. You could check them out if you have the energy :) Jupix 03:18, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
Working on it right now ;) Shall I also replace the images, by those templates of User:0.51? I think the images are more clearer for the reader(s)... But I want to know your oppinion. --CrabbyData 04:39, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
Never mind, Giles cleaned the tutorial up, big time ^_^ I like the look of it now... Better than it was before, that's for sure :P --CrabbyData 06:10, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
Yes, seems okay :) I don't like the way it has no TOC now though, and there should always be an introductionary paragraph before the first subheader.. I'ma gonna fix that soon! Jupix 10:15, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
Most edited page in ages, it has become xD I added some more things to it, maybe you can do your 'TPOV'-cleanup-thing again ;) --CrabbyData 12:36, 14 May 2006 (PDT)
