NEOTOKYO° NEOTOKYO° is a Multiplayer FPS based on Source 2006 Source 2006 that features more realistic/tactical elements than those seen in other multiplayer Source Engine mods.

Development

While NEOTOKYO° NEOTOKYO° was always planned to be a game based on the Source Engine, it started out as a prototype based in Unreal Tournament 2004. After the release of the Source SDK Source SDK, the project was quickly restarted.

The development of this new Source Engine version of NEOTOKYO would go on for five years, with some notable events including Valve Valve CEO, Gabe Newell and Erik Johnson visiting one developer/artist, Leri "puskBAK" Greer during their trip to Australia.

After this 5-year long development, NEOTOKYO would release on ModDB on July 3rd, 2009, and would continue to receive updates, however, developers of Studio RADI-8 soon left to work on other projects or enter the Game Industry full time.

Around 2012, one of the QA testers for NEOTOKYO pushed the mod onto the now defunct Steam Greenlight program, where it would eventually be accepted and release on Steam on May 1st, 2014, and the remaining members of Studio RADI-8 would push updates such as bug fixes and new maps, but this support didn't last for long.

Despite this drought in official support, a small yet still active community continues to host weekly Game-Nights, Seasonal Competitive Tournaments and create Server Plugins and Mods.

As of August 2024, a community effort has sprung up to port NEOTOKYO to Source 2013 Multiplayer Source 2013 Multiplayer, under the name of Neotokyo;Rebuild, the project aims for Parity with the original Source 2006 Source 2006 version well as introducing various new Quality-of-Life features and integrating various community made server plugins.
