Entropy : Zero 2 Entropy : Zero 2 is a sequel for Entropy : Zero Entropy : Zero which follows up from the events of the first game, putting the player character in some new boots with a cloned consciousness and a Combine Elite body. Set after Half-Life 2 Half-Life 2 and before Half-Life 2: Episode One Half-Life 2: Episode One, the player is sent on a mission to capture Judith Mossman and uncover her discovery in the Arctic.

History

Entropy : Zero 2 entered development in February 2018. Entropy : Zero 2 entered official alpha testing on August 1st 2020, reached Beta in April 2022, and released on August 20th 2022. Production spanned five years.

Development

Breadman lead the team which was given the name "Breadmen" prior to the release of Entropy : Zero 2. The team worked tirelessly on the project. In the early days, Breadman propelled production by building the game's maps chronologically relative to the drafted story. The team complimented map creation by providing their own input, assets and features. 1upD and Blixibon worked on new code and features for the game. Kralich worked on models along with Cyonsia and NOSML who crafted new animations. CW3D and Spencer provided sounds and music. Trivvy and CW3D provided their voices as they acted for the various characters in the game. The team would test the maps weekly and Breadman would respond to the feedback given until each map was considered completed by the team. Breadman would produce the maps to the highest possible standard, as to 'front-load' the polishing work that would come later. At times, 1upD and Blixibon developed maps to fill in gaps and further advance the game's production. This process was followed for around three years until the team reached the game's story conclusion. During this initial production process, all features were decided and created as and when they were required. The story was kept flexible throughout, was mostly written chronologically alongside map creation, and was adjusted several times retroactively. Chapter Zero was built and added to the game a year before release. The game's endings were painstakingly developed and the final endings were decided by Breadman and 1upD after many months of drafting, prototyping and re-writes.

Once all of the game's maps had been developed to the accepted standard, testing began and the process of production shifted. The team then focused on pruning, fine-tuning, tonal balancing, recording final dialogue, refining choreography and responding to tester feedback. For a period of around two years, the team continually released builds to testers and responded to feedback. A final lighting pass was conducted by Trivvy prior to release. Release was a long and challenging process in itself.

Post Release

The Entropy : Zero 2 team have continued to publish updates to the game since it's release. Most of these updates have been worked in the absence of Breadman who has been busy working solo on a new commercial project.

As of July 2023, several new features are being worked on by the Entropy : Zero 2 team. These features may or may not be employed in potential future installments of the Entropy : Zero 2 canon. Breadman and the team are still close-knit. They communicate daily and are considering options for a potential continuation of the series.
