Antfarm: Source is a patchset for Half-Life 2 that allows mod-makers to create a multi-player two-dimensional platformer. The base patch contains all the code necessary to convert the perspective from three dimensions to two, and restrict player movement to those dimensions.
A playable tech demonstration called Antfarm: Spheres is available, too.
