| <s>I tried renaming the folders for Source SDK and Steam reinstalled the files. When I try to open Hammer, it still gives me the error, and renaming shortcuts doesn't work. So far, this is the one place on the whole web with people who know enough about SDK to figure out fixes. Urrrgh.
| | Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere, but I've looked around and have been unable to find any information on the problem. It appears as though Faceposer for Source 2009 has been broken since the May 2010 update; upon launching from the SDK Launcher, the only window that appears is one stating that "hlfaceposer.exe has stopped working". The same issue occurs if hlfaceposer.exe is launched directly from the orangebox/bin folder. I'm fairly sure that this is a problem with all systems, not just mine, but in any case, I've heard little to no response from VALVe about it. Nobody seems to know a workaround or even what's causing the problem; I've heard some speculation that the model viewer is broken. Does anybody know what's going on with Faceposer?--WinstonSmith 18:10, 1 June 2010 (UTC) |
| | :Alright, good news. Still don't know what was causing the problems, but Faceposer's working again.--WinstonSmith 23:40, 15 July 2010 (UTC) |

| Also, after I kill that error message, when I try to load a map, I get "Missing material 'editor/flatnocull'". I'm deleting everything related to SDK and doing a fresh reinstall now, I'll edit later what happens..</s>

| I already tried extracting the files and adding them. The problem is that a newly created mod (or an existing one) isn't mounting the ep2 gcfs, which is where it's storing the new editor materials. As far as the DLL problem... I've no idea yet. Still trying to figure that one out. If you do extract the materials, nothing in the views render correctly for some reason. Still trying to figure this one out.--Spektre1 18:22, 7 Nov 2007 (PST)

| :Your game information is put inside the file [account]/sourcesdk/bin/gameconfig.txt, copy this file from the old folder to the new, or alternatively open hammer and use tools->options to reconfigurere it yourself. Sortie 06:00, 9 Nov 2007 (PST)

| ==When I read, "you should include '-nop4' on the command line"==
| |
| | |
| For studiomdl and vtex to work I thought you meant adding it to the Steam Tools|SourceSDK options. Then I read your post in the forum which said to add "-nop4 to the command lines of vtex.exe and studiomdl.exe" which worked. Perhaps editing the wiki text to indicate the -nop4 should go in the command line target text of a shortcut to these executables might help the next person...of course it might be fixed by the time you read this. But, if someone has the same problem and happens to read this discussion perhaps they won't have to get frustrated for an hour until they find that forum post.

| == VGUI Model Viewer with -engine ep1 ==
| |
| | |
| Hi,
| |
| my Hammer crashes when I start the VGUI Model Viewer, the normal Model Viewer works fine.
| |
| Is there a way to get the newer Model Viewer working with -engine ep1 ?
| |
| | |
| So does mine. This is getting a bit old. sagesource, Nov. 13 09:54 PST

| * Fixed crash when opening VGUI model browser in Hammer

| | |
| Just tried using Hammer again... what do you know, it isn't fixed. Same error. Fun. Dave M 11:42, 29 Nov 2007 (PST)
| |
| | |
| They actually fixed it in Counter-Strike, DOD and user-created mods. Using it with hl2 or ep1 still results in a crash but should be fixed shortly.
| |
| | |
| Solutions:
| |
| - Create a dummy, empty mod that will replace half-life 2. Your maps will actually run perfect with the browser.
| |
| - In the Tools->Options, there is an checkbox "Use VGUI for model browser".
| |
| Leave it unchecked and the normal model browser will now work just as in the standalone model viewer.
| |
| No search available though!

| == Making entities parents of themselves through other entities ==
| |
| Making an entity a parent of itself through other entities crashes Hammer without any sort of error. Although doing this is unlikely, perhaps a dialog box informing the user that they can't do this would be more suitable. --A newbie 01:13, 17 Nov 2007 (PST)
| |
| | |
| Well in theory you can't parent up a entity to itself.--Gear 01:33, 17 Nov 2007 (PST)
| |
| | |
| Granted, but it'd probably be better to have an error message rather then a crash --A newbie 01:49, 17 Nov 2007 (PST)

| Reguarding: Souce sdk hammer editor:
| |
| | |
| I see the same thing every time a big patch comes out due to poor QA of steams projects (the tend not to do any quality assurance regaurding complatiblity when rolling out code). You have to completely uninstall and reinstall Source SDK which is a real pain.
