Hey, about the image we both submitted at the same time I didn't revert yours because I wanted mine, yours showed selecting info_player_start instead of info_player_deathmatch --Omnicoder 22:27, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

I wanted to revert mine anyway :) --Barracuda 22:50, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Template Category

Do you have any reasoning for removing templates from the template category? EDIT: Nevermind, I see what you did there. Thanks. Thelonesoldier 22:39, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Ah, you were faster with your edit. Well, that's what I was going to say: They're not removed from the category entirely, but rather automatically moved into the sub-category Category:Notice templates through Template:Messagebox/start. I feel that this is really necessary, because most of these templates are using different HTML/CSS markups, which causes redundancy and an inconsistent look & feel. And a generic all-in-one template category isn't very helpful IMHO. --Barracuda 22:48, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I get it and agree. I just thought putting some of the more common templates in a category was better than having none of them categorized at all, but being more specific is better. Thelonesoldier 00:01, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
I love the new Messagebox template you've created (and/or imported) and integrated with existing message templates. Good work! —Mattshu 07:03, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! It was about time to get rid of these old HTML-templates :) --Barracuda 11:00, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

"Category Spam"?

I categorized some pages, and you reverted those edits, citing "category spam"; what exactly does that mean? Are you contesting that those page do not in fact belong in those categories? Please explain. --Nick Davidowicz 14:54, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

These pages had too many nested categories. For example, Category:Portal 2 Level Design Tutorials is now a subcategory of Category:Level Design Tutorials and Category:Portal 2 Level Design, the latter again is a subcategory of Category:Portal 2. Adding a page to every one of these categories and not just to the "highest" subcategory is in conflict to the purpose of subcategories (see Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Categorization). This wiki already has a very bad utilization of categories, just have a look at Category:Tutorials for example, it's a mess! --Barracuda 16:42, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Alright, how about just using Category:Portal 2 Level Design and Category:Tutorials instead of Category:Portal 2 Level Design Tutorials? --Nick 17:36, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Category:Tutorials already has too many game-specific tutorials, we definitely need a subcategory for Portal 2. But how about Category:Portal 2 Tutorials and Category:Portal 2 Level Design? --Barracuda 17:41, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah I think that's probably best.--Nick D. 18:01, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

I am just here to say that I appreciate your work on the portal 2 related pages. Keep up the good work!--Henke37 22:26, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, you're doing a great job, too! Still, there's a lot of work to do... --Barracuda 23:21, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Template problem

I think I remember you making a lot of formatting changes to templates recently. If so, maybe you could figure this out: I added a numbered list to Template:Deletemod and it somehow introduced line breaks and an apostrophe after the numbered list. I can usually figure out this kind of thing but this one has me stumped. Any idea how to fix that apostrophe? Thelonesoldier 23:15, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Ok... I'm not sure about the exact reason for this problem, but I was able to fix it in Template:Delete. --Barracuda 05:59, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
Nice, thanks! Thelonesoldier 11:06, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Global_ents.vmf =

Excellent job on the table layout! I pretty much just compiled the information and stuck it on, so that's much better. --JZ Bradley 06:16, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Entity Description

I really like the new KV/I/O templates you've made, but I'm not so sure about having an "Entity Description" heading on all the pages. The whole page is a description of the entity, and structurally this is what the heading makes things look like:

Entity description.

Entity Description

Entity description.

KeyValues

...

It's not the end of the world, but I'd like to point this out. :-) --TomEdwards 10:37, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

I get your point, but the problem is that about 90% of the current pages use this syntax. And I think I'm too used to it to change it while updating the pages. I tried to use your syntax, because it actually makes more sense this way, but it somehow feels... wrong :o
Things like this could easily be changed with a bot, however. --Barracuda 10:48, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

jpg vs png

Hi, just wondering what's your motivation behind exchanging the jpg images with png? I looked at Wikipedia and it seems the patent issues are resolved now. The quality, even though jpg is a lossy format, seemed to be ok. --pizzahut 07:45, 28 June 2011 (PDT)

Well, I updated these images some time ago with a new GUI and fading effects. I wanted to use PNG back then already, because of the 8-bit alpha support, but many of the tutorial images are saved as JPEG, so I simply updated them and used a white background instead. This doesn't look good now, since Valve changed the stylesheet of the Wiki. The compression is usually even better compared to the lossy JPEG variants. --Barracuda 07:54, 28 June 2011 (PDT)

Template:KV_Light

*applauds* Nice —Mattshu 14:25, 26 July 2011 (PDT)

Thank you :D. Maybe I could write even a little JavaScript page to simulate these sequences, shouldn't be hard. --Barracuda 16:26, 26 July 2011 (PDT)

Question re: wiki articles and thoroughness

I've noticed that you're doing a lot of awesome format consistency fixes (sorry about some of them; I will learn from your examples). I have a few questions regarding how the wiki works in general. I'm curious on how you're able to know where to find all the articles. You seem to be hitting all of these articles in a methodical fashion. Is there some kind master list somewhere? How are you staying organized? Many thanks, Barracuda! The VDC is becoming aesthetically pleasing, uh, in terms format. First of all: don't forget to sign ;) Well, I'm currently working through the entities on List of L4D2 Entities, I've updated these lists with automatically generated content based on the FGD files. The updated format for each entity page is also created by a program, but often needs manual corrections, because many of the existing articles contain additional information. The "master" list would probably be Category:Entities, but it's way too messy to work with. Oh, and thanks for the positive response ;) --Barracuda 13:01, 12 August 2011 (PDT)

Transparent Pictures?

I saw you made some pictures with a transparent background, how is it possible?
Thanks in advanced,
--Mr. P. Kiwi 23:08, 14 August 2011 (PDT)

You need to use PNG with an alpha channel. GIF can have transparency, too, but only with one bit accuracy (PNG has 8). You can practically make every image transparent by selecting and removing the white areas. --Barracuda 14:52, 15 August 2011 (PDT)

Vindictus Structs

No problem. I've become something of an expert at reverse engineering BSP formats, especially when there's already an existing documentation of a similar format. This was just my work from adding support for Vindictus into my own BSP decompiler, I figured it's best to share it. It's opensource here. http://code.google.com/p/jbn-bsp-lump-tools/source/browse/#svn%2Fbranches%2Fdecompileronly --MofoMan2000 21:21, 14 February 2013 (GMT)

I need help!

So I have been recently playing the Half-Life 2 Beta and was wondering if I could get some help. Mainly with a cut vehicle, weapon and another weapon. All three being the Barge, Propane Tank Launcher and a Browning Heavy Machine Gun! Thanks! (EveryCafe44 (talk) 12:51, 28 February 2020 (UTC)EveryCafe44)
