I have added this to the wiki. Bug Tracking would go well with the bug tracking portion of this article.

I have also gone in-depth with the shipping master process. Shipping Leader In Detail -- ^Ben

It would be good if this(^^^) was added to the actual page...

This should be added to the Tutorials category. --Charron 12:53, 31 Oct 2005 (PST)

This should have a link to the Shipping Leader in Detail page. --Bwmathis 13:57, 5 Nov 2005 (PST)

As far I know, mod isn't an anacronym. --CommandoSR 06:45, 22 Nov 2005 (PST)

I know but sometimes people like to capitalize it—ts2do (Talk | @) 13:23, 22 Nov 2005 (PST)

This page needs some formatting—ts2do 16:53, 18 Mar 2006 (PST)
Pages like these aren't supposed to be protected.. Jupix 05:18, 28 Mar 2006 (PST)
I agree. I'm sure successful mod teams would have plenty to add to this. --Bwmathis 13:26, 30 Apr 2006 (PDT)
+1 on the unlocking this page.--Cheesemoo0 23:47, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
+1 on the unlocking of this page. Overall it doesn't take the beginner perspective into account, and this has begun to spawn alternative tutorials such as Some Info for Mod Starters (that has currently been turned into a redirect). I even spotted a typo that needs fixing. (On-line => online) I can understand if Valve thought it would be a good idea to protect some pages back when it consisted of perhaps ten pages, but I don't see the point of it now. There has been no vandalism to this page either. The future of this page could very well be it being unlinked and replaced by a more updated page. --MossyBucket (formerly Andreasen) 15:24, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Update:
Finally got a reply from (Valve admin) Jeff Lane on unprotecting this topic:
"There are very few pages that we would prefer to remain protected; this is one of them. We wish this particular page to remain as coming from a Valve perspective. If others in the community want to expand the topic from their perspective with additional pages, that is not a problem. Multiple pages can be linked from the appropriate locations and we can add links to this page on request." --JeffLane 22:32, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
This means that alternative tutorials/articles on how to make a mod are allowed (and not to be marked for deletion). --MossyBucket (formerly Andreasen) 16:28, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Release soon, release often

Proper credits should be given to the original author, Linus Torvalds. :)

Russian translation

I made the Russian translation of this great article. Interesting? :) Unsigned comment added by Government-man (talkcontribs) Always sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~)

I think there is already one in place, just not linked to the English version for some reason. --Tourorist 06:38, 13 Feb 2008 (PST)
I think it needs to link it to eliminate confusion... --Government-man 07:33, 13 Feb 2008 (PST)
The English version appears to be protected, so only an administrator would be able to edit it. --Tourorist 07:38, 13 Feb 2008 (PST)

Yes, the Russian version already exists, like Tourorist pointed out. However, you could lend a hand in something similar! The Создание MOD'а article also exists, and since its title doesn't follow translation guidelines (should be Making a MOD:ru instead of Создание MOD'а) and since there already is a Russian article (Making a MOD:ru), you could check both pages' previous history (here and here) and complete Making a MOD:ru with all the corrections that the other article (Создание_MOD'а) might also have. You can also proofread the Making a MOD:ru article to make sure that the translation is correct and corresponds to the original (English) version. Cheers! --Etset 11:59, 13 Feb 2008 (PST)

Actually, Создание MOD'а absolutely identical to Making a MOD:ru, except the title... So I think it may be deleted. --Government-man 00:28, 14 Feb 2008 (PST)
I only had doubts because Создание MOD'а was edited on 12 Mar 2007 (check its history page), and the last edit made to Making_a_MOD:ru was on the 17 Jan 2007 (almost two months earlier) (check its history page). Please check if those corrections to the Создание MOD'а article (on the 12th March) are correct and if they are, add them to the Making_a_MOD:ru article. Apart from that, Создание MOD'а will be marked for deletion. --Etset 03:10, 14 Feb 2008 (PST)
There is only minor stylistic corrections in 13 Mar 2007 revision of Создание MOD'а. You can mark it for deletion. :) As to Making_a_MOD:ru it needs many corrections, so I can do it. --Government-man 03:55, 14 Feb 2008 (PST)

Создание MOD'а is now marked for deletion. Thanks for helping out with Making_a_MOD:ru ;) Other articles (such as Demo Recording Tools:ru) also need some (translation) verification (and also check if it corresponds with the English version). Any help at all is greatly appreciated ;) --Etset 04:36, 14 Feb 2008 (PST)

Removed links to the Создание MOD'а article (it was deleted) and to Инструменты для записи Дэмо (it was moved to Demo Recording Tools:ru). --Etset 04:20, 20 Feb 2008 (PST)

Purpose of this page?

Why do people read this page? My theory: anywhere in a broad spectrum of reasons, beginning at knowing absolutely nothing except that they were made for modding, to wondering why source deserves their years of experience and genius.

To be honest, all I got from this page (aside from links to the wonderful modding category) was how to ship out my mod once I'm done with it. I haven't even started it! So, should this be more of a gateway page, or be structed with more of a 'how-to' approach for mods? Maybe someone is making tons and tons of maps for his un-coded mod, filling it with half-life entities and so on and thinking he can just replace them, only to find out a year later that they all have to be re-populated with his own entities?

I think if someone already knows all that, they'll just skip past those sections, but if they don't... Jazmeister 21:09, 7 Apr 2008 (PDT)

Updates?

Just wondering, does anyone know how to release updates for a released MOD? --JeffMOD 13:59, 10 Apr 2008 (PDT) P.S. Yes, it does say MOD in my name, because I want to make one or more

New section

I have a large chunk of text which ive written up but am not exactly sure where i should put it. Things to Consider When Developing Source Games @ pastebin. i have a version where i went through and capitalised all the letters at the start of sentences that has also been wikified. im not sure if it should get its own article or if it should be canabilized and scattered around other articles. any help would be appreciated. --arenaceous 01:30, 10 Oct 2008 (PDT)

I think you're trying to do too much there. An article on how Valve organised their textures would be great, but it would need to stand alone. --TomEdwards 03:32, 10 Oct 2008 (PDT)
Suggested name for article? You probably have the right idea on cramming too much into one thing. --arenaceous 01:58, 11 Oct 2008 (PDT)

Translations available for this page

Currently, there are Russian, French, and Spanish translations available, but the page is protected and I'm unable to update the otherlang template. —Mattshu (Talk) 08:03, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

German transition

I added a German transition of this page, as it is protected, it would be great if someone could include it in the language picker! - IKlikla (talk) 22:48, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

Why is the page still locked?
