Who (individuals), where (is it hosted) and when was this Wiki created? - Roy 16:00, 25 Jan 2006 (PST)
- There is a little extra info here: Statistics Page --CrabbyData 10:18, 29 Apr 2006 (PDT)
- Am I allowed to guess? Oh well, here goes:
- Who: The Valve people
- Where: Tempe, Arizona (USA) (NetCraft)
- When: I'd say March 31st, 2005 or within two weeks of that.
- Am I even close? :) Jupix 03:00, 1 May 2006 (PDT)
rules
the site needs them. can a mod come here and add a rule page? it's becoming annoying when users quote non-existant rules, right or wrong. Kizzycocoa 17:37, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- Seriously now, go contact someone from Valve if you don't agree with what powered users of this wiki are saying. Unless they say you are right, then you are wrong. You don't have any more rights than anyone here. This is a goddamn wiki, if two people say you're wrong, and you're the only one to think you're not, then you're wrong. That's it, if you don't agree or don't understand the way a wiki works, then get the hell out of it. --NykO18 21:57, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
I have contacted someone. this is just here in case they don't see it. it is in the hands of a mod. and should be left for a mod to reply to. Kizzycocoa 22:07, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- All right, so I guess everything's fine for now. --NykO18 22:08, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- yes, for now. unless solokiller wants to make ANOTHER flame war out of this.
- he's doing a good job so far. Kizzycocoa 22:09, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Updating old sections
Dear VDC, I am currently in the process of updating the SiN Episodes section of the wiki as it is lacking and support for SiN Episodes is non-existant. If anyone disapproves, or finds fault with what I am doing please contact me. --ViralHatred 17:50, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
LinkedIn VDC Group?
Does anyone have any objections to me creating a LinkedIn group for the Valve Developer Community? Raan 21:48, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
Adding back Hit Counter
The VDC used to show how many times a page was accessed. It has been a while since it was removed and I would like to see it back.
Please consider adding back the hit counters extension again.
Thanks.
- Hit counters are from 1990s.
- Google Analytics is from 2005.
Preview without reloading is broken
Since the latest MediaWiki update previewing without reloading no longer works, showing the error "API Error: unknown_useskin". This is an incredibly useful feature, as it prevents your browsing history from being filled with "Editing <page>", and there are very few cases where you actually need to reload for changes to apply properly. Please fix this.
To be honest, I highly doubt anyone will see this, and we'll probably be stuck with this broken for the next 5 years. But I might as well ask. - Luke18033 (talk) 15:06, 21 November 2020 (PST)
Should I add redirects with translated names to translated templates?
So like for instance if a chinese person wanted to use Template:Confirm:zh-cn
, it would likely be annoying to use it, as they would need to either copy paste english text or use an english keyboard to type in {{confirm:zh-cn}}
, which not all chinese people want to do. If there was a template redirect page named simply Template:确认
that redirected to Template:Confirm:zh-cn
, then chinese people would only have to type in {{确认}}
to use the chinese confirm template.
In my opinion this would make it easier for chinese people to insert chinese templates. Right? - Amicdict (talk) 15:35, 14 September 2021 (PDT)
Style Guide
Hello, everyone! Is there a style guide to follow when editing the wiki? MacaylaMarvelous81 (talk) 09:05, 6 November 2022 (PST)
- Nothing beyond the Valve Developer Community:Policies and Guidelines stuff. Wikipedia style guides generally apply, but this wiki has a substance over style attitude, so it's not a huge deal how it's formatted as long as it gets the point across clearly and professionally.
— SirYodaJedi (talk) 18:07, 31 May 2023 (PDT) - There is now Valve Developer Community:Style guide, but it's currently a work in progress. Mailmanmicky (talk) 02:42, 16 June 2023 (PDT)
This wiki needs more namespaces!
One namespace per game, DLC or similar would be good. Lxm6 (talk) 03:37, 28 March 2023 (PDT)
- No, namespaces make searching a pain, as you have to type out the entire name of the namespace, plus a colon, to search for something other than Main. The current method wherein pages are name
Tf2/pagename
orDod/pagename
works much better (as long as capital letters are kept to a minimum)

Stupid Cloudflare captcha verification
This stupid thing came back again, this time, it constantly asking me for the stupid captcha every (probably around 10-20 minutes) or so. And yes I don't even use VPN either. Very annoying. --Kr0tchet (talk) 6:34, 24 Jun 2023
