Director's Cut is a 3D animation tool built as a mod for
Source 2013 running on
Mapbase. This software is under active open source development through GitHub.[1]

History
The project was lead by KiwifruitDev when it began development in May 2022 after discussion in the Source Filmmaker community regarding the desire for an open source version running on the Source Engine had sparked interest.
An attempt was made to license Source for the project alongside efforts towards a Steam release, however the request to license the engine was declined. Due to the similarity to Source Filmmaker, the software was ultimately not permitted to release on Steam.[2]
From June 2023 to September 2023, development was on hiatus until it had been reset in October 2023 after switching its Source Engine base from Alien Swarm to Mapbase.
