Hi! Welcome to the VDC. —Maven (talk) 10:15, 5 Nov 2005 (PST)

Thanks for the welcome. I am here to get info on localizing mods. I hope to be able to contribute once I have figured out why the Lost Coast update broke the tokenization of the scripts\titles.txt I did for MINERVA. The HEV communications stopped appearing after working splendidly. :-( I'd also like to translate some mod descriptions, but not without the permission of their dev teams. — --Pb75 07:46, 6 Nov 2005 (PST)

Bug sorted. Silly encoding issue. A D'oh! moment, if there is one. :-) --Pb75 02:25, 7 Nov 2005 (PST)

I hope that my edits to your user page are not objectionable. —Maven (talk) 15:33, 7 Nov 2005 (PST)

Please feel free to fix the bugs. <smile> I am new to editing wiki pages and still learning how to format the text and links, so your help and edits are most welcome. By the way, can you advise on the best course of action if I want to log the feedback I have regarding French Steam UI bugs? I could just add mine to the ones logged already under User Interface feedback/Bugs/Localization issues#French, but I am concerned about overloading the page, as I have over 40 screens and the corresponding descriptions and suggested fixes. Would Localization_Issues#French or French_UI_bugs be acceptable? —Pb75 17:51, 7 Nov 2005 (PST)

Personally I don't think valve really cares to see your 40 screenshots—ts2do (Talk | @) 18:02, 7 Nov 2005 (PST)

You might make a UIBugs/French subarticle, but I recommend against it. Instead, you might consider linking the screenshots with markup similar to *[[:Image:Steam FR backup 006.jpg]], producing:
which doesn't overload the page as much as the screenshot itself.
Forty screenshots is a bit much, by the way. Can you narrow it to a few, and describe the rest in brief text? Otherwise it's going to overwhelm whatever hapless Valve employee watches the UIBugs page. Too much information can be as much of a problem as too little. —Maven (talk) 18:37, 7 Nov 2005 (PST)
I agree with you, guys, and am very grateful for the tips. I'll cut down on the number of screens and reorganise the results of the QA.
Would User:Pb75/sandbox#French_Localization_Bugs be a good template ? —Pb75 07:58, 8 Nov 2005 (PST)
That looks great. It's certainly more pleasant than UIBugs. —Maven (talk) 09:52, 8 Nov 2005 (PST)
Thanks, Maven. I'm sure I'll need to update the template as we go. —Pb75 05:05, 9 Nov 2005 (PST)

Does anyone watch UIBugs anymore?—ts2do (Talk | @) 19:09, 7 Nov 2005 (PST)

Not sure. Checking with Greg if they actually need this kind of contribution. —Pb75 07:58, 8 Nov 2005 (PST)
They are indeed interested, but since User Interface feedback/Bugs is already way too large (over 32 k), I've created User Interface feedback/Bugs/Localization issues/French and moved the bugs there. Let's see if it works out. —Pb75 05:05, 9 Nov 2005 (PST)

Reading your user page, you might be interested in expanding the Non-code mod settings article. —Maven (talk) 18:26, 9 Nov 2005 (PST)

A great place to start, indeed. Thanks for the pointer. —Pb75 05:03, 10 Nov 2005 (PST)

Change your sig from {{E Icon}} to <font face="Webdings, Sans Serif" style="font-size:22px;">›</font>ts2do (Talk | @) 19:29, 9 Nov 2005 (PST)

Thanks for the tip. I will do that from now on. —Pb75 05:03, 10 Nov 2005 (PST)

By the way, when a screenshot is out of date (because the problem has been fixed), it would be helpful to mark it with {{delete}}. That will let adminstrators know that it's no longer needed. —Maven (talk) 16:13, 11 Nov 2005 (PST)

for your sig, Maven suggests to use a @ instead of Template:E Icon for less cluttersomeness & non webdinginess—ts2do (Talk | @) 17:20, 11 Nov 2005 (PST)

I haven't observed Pb75 using such a sig. All I see is &mdash;'''[[User:Pb75|Pb75]]'''. Am I missing something? —Maven (talk) 20:53, 11 Nov 2005 (PST)
[1]ts2do (Talk | @) 20:56, 11 Nov 2005 (PST)
Ah. —Maven (talk) 21:01, 11 Nov 2005 (PST)
Updated to the new syntax. Thanks for the tip. Your help is much appreciated. —Pb75 06:49, 12 Nov 2005 (PST)

Gameinfo.txt

I did a little research and it seems valve almost made it so languages could be done through a specified char variable, check out

FSReturnCode_t FileSystem_LoadSearchPaths( CFSSearchPathsInit &initInfo )

in filesystem_init.cpp

It uses initInfo.m_pLanguage which is never set by any code what you could do though is prepend a "game" dir to the searchpaths in gameinfo.txt and have all of your localization files in there (should be labeled _english still [or any language you want to override])—ts2do (Talk | @) 07:33, 12 Nov 2005 (PST)

Spot on, Sir. I tested it and it works like a charm. Next time you are in Dublin, the drinks are on me. —Pb75 15:40, 13 Nov 2005 (PST)

Hi. I was wondering if you could help with the syntax required to prepend the minerva_english folder in Minerva gameinfo.txt. Currently, it's

SearchPaths
{
Game |gameinfo_path|.
Game hl2
}

I'm running Steam in English. Cheers, —Pb75 01:22, 4 Apr 2006 (PDT)

What are you trying to do? english is default...anyways...if you forgot, you don't do this in the gameinfo.txt...what you do is utilize the mod's folder with _english appended—ts2do 06:39, 4 Apr 2006 (PDT)

I'd like to plug in a Polish translation without overwriting the files in metastasis\resource, metastasis\scripts etc. Languages supported in Steam are taken care of by inserting the metastasis_french folder, but I'd like to do something similar for languages which are not supported by Steam. —Pb75 01:05, 5 Apr 2006 (PDT)
