If it's not too much trouble, could you possibly send me a copy of that SMD exporter for Blender? The website's down. Thanks a lot for publishing this info. I've been waiting a while for a way to make props in Blender. -mungo
- Certainly, I've uploaded it to http://files.johnsto.co.uk/smd_export.py This is my version, which includes a couple of changes over the original. Most notably, it only exports the selected objects, and expects there to be an Empty object indicating where the model origin should be. Johnsto 13:45, 4 Jul 2005 (PDT)
Are there any influential Half-Life type personages who haven't signed up to this wiki? :-] -- Cargo Cult 14:50, 4 Jul 2005 (PDT)
A couple of questions about that script. What should the Empty object be, just a cube where the origin's its center, or it a special type of Blender object?? and Do you know what it refers to to pull the name of the materials? ...could be the material, the texture, or whatever's in the UV window I guess. Thanks so much. -mungo
- An Empty object is a special type of Blender object, which basically just specifies a position and orientation. If you don't include one, the script will use the world origin. The material name is pulled from the UV face mapping, i.e. from the UV window. Blender's material system is not used in the script at all. johnsto 12:32, 9 Jul 2005 (PDT)
hi i just wanted to say thanks for the blender exporter and i cant wait to see more blender items and other contributors. also wanted to say you have posted some great items on your blog that have helped me a slight bit. :) --Stevenm64 02:30, 25 Jul 2005 (PDT)
In case you're interested, someone in this forumis working on a script that supports animations. He however does not have his own copy of HL2 and is relying on others to test if what he tries actually works. Perhaps you have some ideas that could help him out. I'd love to see this work out soon. A full-featured exporter would be so useful for those of us used to Blender!--Mungo 14:23, 30 Jul 2005 (PDT)
Where do I put the exporter?
I have the SMD exporter, but where exactly do I put it? Right now it's in .blender/scripts/smd_exporter.py, but it doesn't seem to load.

That's the correct location. Access it via File, Export, HalfLife2 (.smd)
