Talk:Steam Application IDs
i renamed the article because i think appid is the short form for application id and not applaunch id -- hotbot
I always wondered why the numbers went up in such large steps. --TomEdwards 06:31, 27 Jul 2005 (PDT)
- To allow room for things like extra languages. It's not like they especially need to conserve them, there would be at least 65536 distinct IDs if negative numbers are disallowed, given it must be using 2 bytes because they're already using numbers bigger then 255. --AiusEpsi 14:04, 31 Oct 2005 (PST)
but of course...applaunch is application launch anyways, so it's shorter...and correcter looking -ts2do
@Ts2do: Where do you know it from, that 1000 is Ragdoll Kung Fu? --King2500 06:54, 4 Sep 2005 (PDT)
- Ok.. you're right, it´s appid 1000 ;) --King2500 07:13, 4 Sep 2005 (PDT)
Any word on gmod's app number? --Amckern 06:32, 22 Apr 2006 (PDT)
How do we know what the appIDs for a GCF are? GCFScape doesn't seem to say what they are, and I can't find any Steam files which say. ATimson 22:10, 28 Jul 2006 (PDT)
- Well, these entries are stored in the "ClientRegistry.blob" file, though no tool exists officially to view this, there is a program that can view this file. Since I probably shouldn't post the link to it, just google "ClientRegistry Toolkit 0.3.0". Once you get the tool, double-click on the "ContentDescriptionRecord" value and go to the "Applications" tab. --DaFileServer 23:52, 7 Sep 2006 (PDT)
Media files
Do we really need a page for each media file? It's just a waste. --AndrewNeo 12:36, 6 May 2006 (PDT)
- Well...we have demo pages, so why not?—ts2do 12:50, 6 May 2006 (PDT)
Bioshock
Why would the Bioshock preload be a different AppId to the game itself? --TomEdwards 13:32, 16 Aug 2007 (PDT)
- Bioshock preload is encrypted and without exe file.--AciD 14:12, 16 Aug 2007 (PDT)
- So is every other. --TomEdwards 14:31, 16 Aug 2007 (PDT)
L4D
According to Steam Stat Page, Left 4 Dead is 870. (And there's one person playing it atm lol.) Anyone think it's worth adding?
- Must be an error or glitch, I can't see any 870 now. Anyway, added the L4D items 501-504. I could generate a complete list, but that would be over 9000 (cue internet meme) lines in the wiki. --Terr 08:56, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- Upload it your list and provide a link on the page. I'm sure others will find it useful.--cheesemoo0 03:46, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
NCF?
Does/should this list include NCF files as well? After all, L4D uses the NCF format. MK 11:18, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
