Do you have to copy all of the files? Because that makes it less of a Portal 2 mod and more of a copy of Portal 2, which is illegal to distribute. --Super200 14:22, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Surely you don't need to copy everything, just tell the engine to load all the portal 2 files? --Welsh Mullet 08:50, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

I've tried this with Making_Your_Portal_Mod, and have changed it to work with Portal 2. It's much easier, faster and cleaner. Haven't found any disadvantages yet, but the article should be changed to the more legal way :) --StephenB 15:23, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

few problems

the game is very picky when it cant find certan files, so it is best to copy the whole game. If you rename the game in the info.txt the game might crash from the portalgun becuse the files in the resource and script folders are set to the portal 2 name and folder

Resource, schemes and menu

For some reason Portal2.exe ignores every .res file in my mod's /resource folder and uses default content from portal 2 /resource folder. Because of that i can't get my custom schemes and menu modifications and even background to work, unless i remove Portal2 data from gaminfo.txt, but then i cant load any maps in mod. Any ideas? Figured it out. --Oskutin 08:44, 27 August 2011 (PDT)

What was the problem? FelixGriffin 09:15, 27 August 2011 (PDT)

No Steam

When I launch my mod the menu only has two options: "No Steam" and "Quit". "No Steam" doesn't even launch the game.

This is incomplete

This topic contains nothing about GameData and what to pack. Beginners will not know where to go.

The purpose of a wiki is to provide complete information on a subject. The instructions should explain how these file systems work and why they're set up in this way so each user can make adjustments to their specific situation, or at least actually know what they're doing. People are following these instructions to the very letter and getting poor or non-functioning results. Giving someone a copy-paste recipe to follow leads them to a dead end when things go wrong.

If this information is detailed elsewhere on the site, there should be a referral link on this page and pages like it. Otherwise, these types of pages should not exist, as they act as red herrings to beginners.

Use with CS:GO?

Hi. I was wondering if I could use this method for making a CS:GO mod. I wasn't sure since they both use the same engine branch technically.
