Problems with far Z

Is anybody else experiencing issues with Far Z and fog rendering lately? For some reason, fog isn't rendered on top of the Far Z clipping plane, causing a large gap to be shown instead. I've experimented with Far Z and fog distance settings, and nothing seems to fix it. 3D skybox fog still seems to work. Solokiller 09:57, 15 Jan 2008 (PST)

I've noticed that fog only renders if there would be something behind it to render, so if the skybox is behind it, it will not render. Solokiller 14:53, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
I observed strange effects of the setfarz breaking and having no apparent effect anymore. The rest of the fog settings worked, but farz stopped working. This then was observed across all maps in the game, of farz not working. Coincidentally shortly afterwards I experienced a harddrive failure and had to reinstall windows. I was able to recover the data, and tried again in the same testmap, and found farz to be working again. It's possible its a client caching issue that farz stops working correctly? Maybe simply restarting the user's PC resolves the issue? I'm unsure. Egan 22:10, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
What game are you in ? For example in l4d2 if you start the game with -dev launch option then r_farz cvar is set to 30000 which overrides the fog controller setting —Nescius (talk) 19:14, 7 August 2024 (PDT)
Oh that would explain it! Yes the cvar was set to 30000. Changing back to default -1 causes it to work again. Thank you! Egan 06:10, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

Do the Lerp inputs work?

I'm assuming you set the values via inputs first, and then trigger the "StartFogTransition" input? I can't get it working in Ep2. --Campaignjunkie (talk) 17:54, 3 Aug 2008 (PDT)

Multiple fog controllers

I seem to recall it being possible to use multiple fog controllers if they had names, was this added with L4D or is it just a common misconception? Solokiller 19:28, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Darkness with fog?

Hi, you think I should use an env_fog_controller with black color for a darkness effect or the darkness itself already has a natural effect? You know, when after certain distance you can only see black...

edit: Forget it I tested it. Darkness alone is ok without fog :)

Linear fog distance?

Black Fog (0 0 0) seems to get thicker in a very strange way. I've set fog start to 1, and fog end to 10000, but fog still doesn't seem to appear until about 8000 units away from the camera, and at 10000 there's a "sharp" edge.

I tried changing the color to white (255 255 255), and it blended like expected. Why does black fog look so bad?
