I was so happy to read that Darwinia is getting released over Steam. I bought, played, and loved the game a while back and am amazed at the number of people who haven't ever heard of it. Hopefully it's release over Steam will gain it the attention it so muchly deserves. --Fuzzy 16:01, 15 Nov 2005 (PST)

It looks pretty cool. Ragdoll Kung Fu surprised me with it's simple coolness, and this game looks like it'll do the same. --Bwmathis 17:32, 15 Nov 2005 (PST)

This reminds me of Golf?ts2do (Talk | @) 18:10, 15 Nov 2005 (PST)

The graphics look similar, but the premise is quite different (I think, I'm downloading the Golf beta now). Darwinia is hard to define in terms of a genre, but I guess the best way to explain it would be as a squad based RTS. --Fuzzy 18:53, 15 Nov 2005 (PST)
Hadn't heard of Golf?, but it looks rather interesting - Darwinia itself would probably be best described as a cross between Cannon Fodder, Lemmings and Syndicate. No doubt all you young'ins are looking completely mystified (YOU HEATHENS!), but any modern game which has a thunderous Atari ST chip-tune for its intro wins maximum points from me! --Cargo Cult (info, talk) 04:15, 16 Nov 2005 (PST)

MMM Lemmings—ts2do (Talk | @) 07:52, 16 Nov 2005 (PST)

Between this and RDKF, I can bet that we're going to get a lot more 3rd party developers using Valve as a distrobution channel. While I have no problem with Wiki entries for them (even though the wiki's theme doesn't really apply to them) who thinks we should make a new template to point out games are made by third parties and don't use the Source engine? --AndrewNeo 11:00, 16 Nov 2005 (PST)

Agreed. Engage, Number One. --Bwmathis 12:56, 16 Nov 2005 (PST)

Another comment.. I heard that the Linux version is just a different executable that uses the same game data files from the Windows copy (which is what you buy in stores.) Does anyone who bought Darwinia from Steam know if you can extract those same files from the GCF? Maybe it'd be worth writing a short tutorial on getting the Linux version to run from your Steam copy if possible. I'd do it myself but I don't own the game. --AndrewNeo 05:33, 16 Dec 2005 (PST)

No idea about converting to Linux (I've got a retail copy I bought back in March) - the Linux version uses the Loki graphical installer and fetches the files from the CD automatically. It's almost certainly possible to extract the files from the installer manually, and I haven't heard of any major differences in the Steam version which would stop its data files working in an earlier release - there's a complete absence of copy-protection in the original releases as well, so there's no need for an original CD to run.
Oh, and a warning - I hear something ... interesting will happen in Darwinia on the 24th and 25th of December for Steam users. It happened a bit earlier in the retail version, and took me completely by surprise - it's awesome! —Cargo Cult (info, talk) 07:21, 16 Dec 2005 (PST)
Saw this on the Darwinia forums - potentially of some help if you want the game to run on Linux! --—Cargo Cult (info, talk) 04:23, 22 Dec 2005 (PST)

It sure would be easier to mod for Darwinia if they released some open-source missions—ts2do (Talk | @) 15:37, 22 Dec 2005 (PST)

it's snowing in Darwinia!!—ts2do (Talk | @) 22:02, 24 Dec 2005 (PST)
