Hardware Roll-Call!

Yeah, I'm a Mac nut. Intel-powered Apple hardware I have access to: a 1.83GHz MacBook Pro (shiny!) and back home, my dad's Core Solo Mac Mini.

Admittedly, I haven't got round to installing Windows XP on either yet (I need to get an external Firewire disk and a new copy of Windows XP), but I'm somewhat interested in this - as it would mean I can work on MINERVA even when hundreds of miles from my big, ugly desktop PC. Oh, and if anyone gets things working fully by April 8th, you will be my best friend ever. —Cargo Cult (info, talk) 02:29, 24 Mar 2006 (PST)

Question

If you are running XP on a Mac... is there any real difference to a "standard" laptop, except it is in a Mac case?

Not really any difference, some people just like to dual-boot between OS's. --Steamfraiser 07:21, 5 Apr 2006 (PDT)

Taking the Plunge

Okay, my MacBook Pro's got updated firmware, I'm burning the drivers CD, and I'm about to order a Windows XP disc and an chunky external hard disk (for backups, and more space for Windows). If that doesn't arrive by Friday evening, I think I'll cry... ;-] —Cargo Cult (info, talk) 08:08, 5 Apr 2006 (PDT)

Hmm. I went to PC World. Walked past their sorry selection of PowerPC-based Macs, picked up a full-price *wince* Windows XP box, got a new mouse and a chunky external hard disk, and I'm now making backups. Wish me luck! —Cargo Cult (info, talk) 09:48, 5 Apr 2006 (PDT)
Typing this in Firefox running on Windows XP pn my MacBook Pro. Half-Life 2 is currently being restored from backup files; Steam installed with no problems at all. I suspect it's all going to work - with no problems at all... —Cargo Cult (info, talk) 13:23, 5 Apr 2006 (PDT)
It works. I now have the HL2 intro playing in glorious high-resolution detail on my MacBook Pro. Suffers a little from stuttering (haven't fiddled with the beta stuff yet) but the framerate is good, and I've cranked the visual settings up high. AWESOME. —Cargo Cult (info, talk) 13:47, 5 Apr 2006 (PDT)
Just played through some of MINERVA, and it works fine. But when I exited, it asked me if I wished to participate in Valve's hardware survey. I did. —Cargo Cult (info, talk) 14:28, 5 Apr 2006 (PDT)
Does your MacBook Pro have 128MB, or 256MB VRAM? --Steamfraiser 07:28, 6 Apr 2006 (PDT)

One Problem...

One problem I've found is that it works so well, it makes this article completely irrelevant. Oops. —Cargo Cult (info, talk) 15:02, 5 Apr 2006 (PDT)
