В геймдизайні, дешева сутність/ефект/функція - це та, що може обробитися дуже швидко під час виконання. Наприклад, в Source, деформовані поверхні, браші та декалі є дуже дешевими для відмальовки.
Багато дешевих речей можна відмалювати на екрані за раз, але їхня візуальна або обчислювальна якість зазвичай низька. Декалі та інші двовимірні зображення є прикладами дешевих об'єктів, які не обов'язково мають брак якості.
Термін також посилається, як на відносно дешеві процеси, коли таких існує більше одного. Для прикладу, "дешева" вода використовує кубічну карту (cubemap) замість належних відбиттів.
