Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (2011) is the next game of the Counter-Strike franchise, running on the Source engine. The game will be available on PC as well as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game contains the well known Hostage and Bombing scenarios and will add a two new game type called "Arsenal: Demolition" & "Arsenal: Arms Race". These gamemodes are based on the popular mod Gungame.
Arsenal: Demolition is a fast paced mix of bomb planting and gun progression. There are no buy menus, you start with a rifle and if you get a kill that round – you get a progressively weaker weapon in the next round.
Arsenal: Arms Race game mode is a single extended round with instant respawn. All players start with the same weapon and get a new one each time they kill an enemy. The progression of unlocked weapons ends with the knife. The first player to get a kill with every weapon wins the match.
New weapons have also added: Molotov grenades wich create a pool of fire in the ground, Decoy grenades wich creates fake weapon sounds & a taser melee weapon.
Technology-wise, a new method of lighting has been implemented, wherein outdoor lighting (which previously was handled by a light_environment entity and produced only static lighting) now casts harsh, directional shadow maps similar to env_projectedtexture. Details about the inner workings of this method have yet to be revealed.
