Look hard enough around the Internet and you'll find this tool and some company custom compilers. Great stuff.

Is there any chance of the glue software for VMPI being released for we, the proletariat?

It's just that I got the good-old netvis working yesterday on a map for the original Half-Life, and spread over three machines and four processors, it was stunningly fast.
