id Tech 2, also known as Quake engine, is an engine created by
 id Software for
 Quake, and later modified for
Quake II. It was used as the foundation for
 GoldSrc and all subsequent
 Valve engines.
id Tech 2 consists of the following two "branches":
- The
Quake Engine, developed for Quake and used by several other games - The
Quake II Engine, developed for Quake II and used by several other games
Both id Tech 2 engine branches were later made open-source under GNU GPL 2.0 (or later) license.
