Left 4 Dead 2 is an upcoming sequel to Valve's original multiplayer zombie/survival horror game, Left 4 Dead. After heavy initial critique of the prequel regarding lack of content, Valve promised to continuously extending the game, as seen with Team Fortress 2, which let to further criticism when Valve announced Left 4 Dead 2.

Criticism

The main point of critique against Left 4 Dead 2 has been Valve's choice to develop a sequel rather than further expand Left 4 Dead. The developer has, however, explained that Left 4 Dead 2 will contain too much new content to be suitable for release as a DLC for the original game. Although most con-sequel groups have now been disbanded or fallen to inactivity, some fans still claim that Valve have failed to deliver the promised content for Left 4 Dead and thus continue opposing Left 4 Dead 2.

Demo

A demo was set for release on October 27, but has due to several delays, presumably caused by unforeseen technical inadequacies at Valve, yet to be made available. All officially planned release times are listed below, all in UTC.

  1. October 27, time unspecified. Announced on the Left 4 Dead 2 pre-order Steam adds.
  2. October 27, 10 PM. Presumably announced during this date.
  3. October 28, 6 AM. Announced shortly before 10 PM.
  4. October 28, 8 PM. First announcement time unknown.
  5. October 28, 9 PM. Announced minutes before 8 PM.
  6. October 28, 10 PM. Announced minutes before 9 PM.

The late release time and four delays have caused major controversy among fans leading to an increase in support for the original con-sequel standpoint and a generally offensive attitude towards Valve, particularly on the official forum for Left 4 Dead 2. Valve has responded by aggressively removing and locking posts and threads as the forum was overrun with hateful contributions.
