Introduction
Before the destruction of the Citadel...
Before Anticitizen 1...
Before Gordon Freeman....
In the authoritarian state of City 17 a rebel fighter, John Dalton, fights against the oppression of the Combine and for a better future for the human race. But something is wrong. Haunted by terrifying dreams and unsettling flashbacks, you begin to wonder if there's more to your existence than you initially know. And the Combine are always hot on your heels wherever they tread.
They storm your hideout, without warning, without discrimination and with deadly precision. You are captured and transported to a secret Combine facility to be assimilated into a soldier. However the process goes awry and you escape.
Mistaken by rebels for the enemy, hunted by the Combine as a failed experiment and forever haunted by unsettling memories, you are now on a quest for redemption. What is left for you now? Is there anywhere you can ever be safe? Will you ever find acceptance and discover your true story?
