Quick Question about Title
Just like in the sidebar, the link to the Source SDK forums is broken
I'm making a multiplayer mod and i wish to change the
<br>Wisdurm (talk) 07:52, 2 January 2024 (PST)
title to Infected World but the symbols (- (c) 2)stay
at random locations and there are several clear bars
that cut off the text.

so rather simple, how do i change the main menu title for my game?

"Forums are NOT a cure-all"
Has this page been completely abandoned for the slightly helpful forums?

Go to the forums and do a search for cclientrenderableslist. tell me if you get any results?
And yes, I'm having issues with that popping up on the screen. What gives?

"Only move your own question"
"Only move your own question" We're going to have a lot of unclosed questions from people who don't check back after asking. I propose that it's OK to move a question to the Answered section if it's sat there for several days. Also, that answered section should be periodically cleaned and added to some sort of FAQ. &mdash;Maven (talk) 12:38, 21 Sep 2005 (PDT)
* I would suggest keeping unanswered questions that can be answered there, but if most people assume they can't, then move them. I also suggest instead of an FAQ, move the answered questions and all comments pertaining to that to an archive page. (Ex. Help Desk/Archive 2005) Then put a link at the top to the subpages so people can see if their question was already answered. --AndrewNeo 13:48, 21 Sep 2005 (PDT)
:: I think that new visitors will be inhibited by anything called "archive" much more than something (even the same thing) called "FAQ". I agree with your other point, though. &mdash;Maven (talk) 15:44, 21 Sep 2005 (PDT)
:::Do what you guys think is right, I whipped this together in five minutes before going to work. It's by no means perfect. :P --Charron 03:26, 22 Sep 2005 (PDT)

Help desk necessary?
I think that now that the developer forums are moved back to Steampowered, that maybe we should redirect all help requests over there. The help desk is kind of messy and gets full of unanswered questions, not to mention we -still- get people trying to ask for help on the Main Page talk even though the message there says not to post help questions in the talk page. The forum is much better suited for finding support. --AndrewNeo 08:16, 29 May 2007 (PDT)
::I'm sorry but I really have to disagree. The help desk has saved me many times, mainly becuase people get stuck with the same things. Also it's a lot easier to ues because it's VDC members and it's on one page, not several threads with multiple pages. Sorry but no MLSTRM 17:56, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
::: You can search the Steam forums. It's much more effective than plonking everything onto one enormous page. (And if a problem really is frequent, then make it into an article!) --TomEdwards 18:56, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
:::: I would tend to agree. The steampowered forums are far superior for this purpose. At the very least users should be directed primarily to the forums instead of this page. That is actually why it says "SDK Help Foums" on the left-hand sidebar, instead of the Help Desk. --JeffLane 21:39, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

How bout a help desk archive category &mdash;Ts2do 06:13, 22 Sep 2005 (PDT)

::I think it's time.. This page is getting way to big... -- dutchmega
::Got annoyed... So I archived the answered questions... But what about deleting this entire page? I think the chatbear forum is good enough and have more people. --dutchmega 09:38, 26 May 2006 (PDT)
:::As far as I'm aware, the page was created because people were using Talk:Main Page and other pages in the same manner. Deleting it won't make the questions go away. I think there are probably more intelligent ways of archiving and managing it, though. The content from Answered Questions should be integrated into existing topics and FAQs or deleted. An archive page is only relevant when it's necessary to preserve some chronological aspect, imo, otherwise it has no useful function.
:::There also needs to be an update to the "only move your own question" rule. Some folk seem to be using the page in a drive-by manner - post and see if anyone responds, but if they don't then hey, no loss to them. That works fine in a forum setting where those posts will then sink off the forum's front page, but it just makes a mess here. I think any question unserviced for a month should be deleted or moved to answered. --Giles 12:22, 26 May 2006 (PDT)
:::: That is a wonderful Idea. Please do that, it will make things a lot more easier. Cubedude 19:36, 26 May 2006 (PDT)
:Easiest way to do this is to move the oldest requests to Help Desk\Archive1, Wikipedia-style, and add a link to the archive page at the top of cleaned-up Help Desk. See "How to archive a talk page" for more ideas. Any objections? Matveims 01:12, 6 Jun 2006 (PDT)
::Yeah, I object ... because it's already been done. :) This discussion is now about doing things to the information that are less easy, but more useful, as mentioned above. --Giles 03:04, 6 Jun 2006 (PDT)
:::You're right; stupid suggestion on my part. How about creating a Help Desk FAQ or Help Desk answers? There are many answered questions on the page (and in archive) that would make a good FAQ. A message suggesting to check the FAQ could be put at the top of the Help Desk article. Matveims 13:31, 12 Jun 2006 (PDT)
::::The information in the answered questions certainly needs something doing with it. Given how many questions make it onto the Help Desk, a FAQ would get fairly large fairly rapidly. Once it's gotten big, either people would stop reading it or they would be forced to use the search instead. At that point (and in general), putting the information in a "Help Desk FAQ" seems less useful than just dispersing it around the rest of the Wiki.
::::Saying that, I would note that there are two types of question posed on the Help Desk. Very specific technical questions and beginner questions. While the former stuff can be easily spread throughout the Wiki's articles, I think I would agree that some kind of "Help My Level Is Broken What Do I Do?" checklist style article would be beneficial. --Giles 16:45, 12 Jun 2006 (PDT)
:::::Alrighty i fixed some things, just for organizing, however this does make the page slightly longer. I've yet to Archive anything. For now though, I shall be working on this oage and getting it in shape.--Gear 03:59, 24 Sep 2007 (PDT)
::::::Wait this sort of just hit me, however how should we archive? By months, weeks, days or even years?--Gear 04:01, 24 Sep 2007 (PDT)
:::::::All I know is that unanswered questions is a very good Source to find what is lacking with the SDK and the wiki, so they should be archived and not deleted. For instance, if you are looking for something to add to the wiki, all you have to do is go here, and try to establish why someone would ask a question "if the VDC is so all-knowing", and then try to prevent that question from being asked again by adding the information that answers this question to the appropriate page. If it looks like a bug, you can add it to the bug page instead. Often these questions are often a source for useful information. --Andreasen 06:06, 24 Sep 2007 (PDT)
::::::::Yup thats what the wiki is all about. The good thing is we can tell people about the Archives. IE: "To check if your question has already been awnsered, look within the archives." I just mainly put it under category's, cause man will that help out with the archiving. So when people say have an issue with mod files, rather than look through a long list of stuff, then can find the category "Mod Files" and say:"Oh look, I'll check there".--Gear 11:55, 24 Sep 2007 (PDT)

Rakosmanjr's question
So it's a bit long, but is this enough to classify it as spam and remove it? --pizzahut 12:35, 13 Jun 2008 (PDT)

Organization?
The page is a bit troublesome I noticed for people that have never used a wiki before to post up a question here, perhaps we should maybe redesign the Help Desk into multiple pages, each containing a set of issue that can be updated into a FAQ, not only will it not discourage people from asking questions because of the sheer size of the oage, but it might help anwser already presented questions.--Gear 19:21, 20 Jun 2008 (PDT)
