Episode One

So, has Aftermath really been renamed? Jupix 02:11, 11 Feb 2006 (PST)

  • Apparently.. I liked Aftermath better. Sticking with a naming scheme would have been cooler for all the 'episodes'. But until we hear direct-official word I'd hold off on renaming the article. --AndrewNeo 07:50, 11 Feb 2006 (PST)
I did rename the article, if it's wrong, move it back. --Hipshot 14:10, 11 Feb 2006 (PST)

I think the new name is partly to avoid the Attack of the Colons endemic in games right now. Half-Life was just Half-Life, the sequel was Half-Life 2 (and not Half-Life 2: The Sequel) and the first episode of the episodic content is Half-Life 2: Episode 1 instead of Half-Life 2: Episode 1: Let's Get: Another Colon In: This Time It's Personal. Or something. I quite like it... —Cargo Cult (info, talk) 16:12, 22 Feb 2006 (PST)

IMO, Episode One isn't really episode one (HL2 is, or from a wider perspective, HL1 is). I think this new name for Aftermath is illogical and therefore I don't like it. Jupix 12:27, 23 Feb 2006 (PST)

Well, in computer science, things start at 0...so the initial HL2 was Half-Life 2: Episode 0 and now they're on 1—ts2do 17:45, 24 Feb 2006 (PST)

Was Half-life 1, Half-life -1 in that case?--Deadity 12:00, 7 Mar 2006 (PST)

One not 1

It should be One not 1 IMO unless 1 is official. Jupix 09:28, 7 Mar 2006 (PST)

I don't know if it was you who asked Jeff, but it's indeed "One", not "1". This article should be renamed and I'm renaming it now. Edit: No, it wasn't that easy: In order to do a proper move (to keep the article history), the "Episode One" page, that is redirecting here, needs to be deleted first. We'll have to wait, I guess. --Andreasen 09:17, 19 Apr 2006 (PDT)
Indeed.. That's why I prodded Jeff and didn't move it myself.. :P Jupix 06:24, 20 Apr 2006 (PDT)

.....!

My friend just pointed out that this is coming out the day I graduate. It'll be like the best day in the world. Of course, now I may have to skip going, so I can play... way to go, Valve! --AndrewNeo 17:04, 7 Apr 2006 (PDT)

SDK update

I heard we are getting a SDK update after this is out? --dutchmega

God... I really want a SDK update now... New enemies, changed AI, new bugs... Terrific! --dutchmega 14:53, 1 Jun 2006 (PDT)
Is there any official word on when or even if this will happen?--Fitzroy doll 01:58, 2 Jun 2006 (PDT)

Spoilers on VDC

Can we have some kind of discussion and reach some kind of agreement on how we are going to handle the release of Episode 1 (and future episodes) here? I think it's safe to assume with the creation of this page (that I presume is a new enemy type) that some people are going to be rushing to fill the VDC up with spoilerific information from the new releases. I haven't read the page, so can't vouch for its contents, but its mere existence and the fact that I have to read its title on the Recent Changes page bugs me.

My opinion: This is a Developer Community, not a Fan Community. This kind of stuff is of no relevance here until such time as we as developers are actually able to make use of it. But developers are still players, so I don't think they should be forced to have the game spoiled by other contributors if they want to use this resource for non-EP1 purposes.

I think we should have a moratorium on adding Episode 1 stuff to this site for one month after release, or until an SDK update, whichever is soonest. Perhaps for those that really can't help themselves, we could keep it all in a page like Half-Life 2: Episode One Spoilers and have people be discreet with how they word their edit summaries. --Giles 05:38, 25 May 2006 (PDT)

Seconded Jupix 06:00, 25 May 2006 (PDT)
Interesting... I have no problems with spoilers but it's a good idea. And when Episode One is released, add it to normal pages? --dutchmega 07:30, 25 May 2006 (PDT)
When Episode One is released don't add it to the pages. When the SDK update is released, then add it to normal pages. --Giles 08:37, 25 May 2006 (PDT)
Thirded - thanks for pointing out what that page was BEFORE I read it (it was next on my list). Can whoever put it there pleasae remove it for the time being - even seeing that that exists is a spoiler. Once the SDK is updated, go for it, but for now, please don't spoil it for those of us who haven't played the game already (so it's cool for Cargo Cult:) )- RodeoClown 15:12, 25 May 2006 (PDT)
This makes it problematic for bug reports. --Alph Tech STUART 14:00, 1 Jun 2006 (PDT)

Episode 1 sdk offerings

What is going to be the deal with modding ep1? Can we use stuff from it in normal HL2, or what? Anyone have any ideas how it will work?- RodeoClown 17:08, 25 May 2006 (PDT)

HL2E1 can run any mod HL2 can.--Alph Tech STUART 16:11, 31 May 2006 (PDT)
That doesn't really answer the question at all - I meant can we use the assets from HL2E1 in HL2. Things like AI, new enemies etc.- RodeoClown 16:13, 1 Jun 2006 (PDT)
It'll probably be like mods for DOD:S (heh, MODS for DODS), where you need to have the game for it to run. --Alph Tech STUART 16:24, 1 Jun 2006 (PDT)
I think so, because Episode One is an extension of HL2 and not a seperate mod, like CSS. We need to wait at the SDK-update. --dutchmega 03:26, 2 Jun 2006 (PDT)

Live

Is this going live at midnight or what? --Alph Tech STUART 16:11, 31 May 2006 (PDT)

  • It's at the top of the page. --AndrewNeo 16:29, 31 May 2006 (PDT)
