Say, any documentation on making Goldsource mods? --Alph Tech STUART 07:08, 18 Dec 2005 (PST)
if you want to make docs here you can!—ts2do (Talk | @) 11:33, 18 Dec 2005 (PST)
I didn't know Half-Life (the Goldsource engine) was based on QuakeWorld, I thought it's based on Quake 1 and Quake 2? --Pizzahut 16:43, 22 Dec 2006 (PST)
First I and a few friends of mine decided to make a GoldSource mod. But it seems that we can't get any help for it from internet. And becouse of Source's fame, it's better to make a Source mod today. I'm very oldschool so I love the good old GoldSrc and Half-Life, but the truth is that it's much easier to make a Source mod today, than a GoldSrc mod. Thanks. --HyprE 04:49, 14 Jun 2007 (PDT)
Adding VERC tutorials?
Are we allowed to post VERC tutorials here? Because I found a grand total of one Half-Life 1 code tutorial on a website that isn't down (though most every Source mapping tutorial applies retroactively to GoldSource, so any GoldSource specific tips can pretty much be shoved onto one page). GoldSource still has it's benefits (lower requirements, boots up in a snap, loads maps in 2 or so seconds). Please respond, Valve. --D1Hazel1337 22:50, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
Goldsource vs. GoldSrc
I'm used to seeing the name written as GoldSrc, including the title of the Wikipedia article. Googling 'GoldSrc valve' gives ~38k results vs 12k for 'Goldsource valve'. Should we rename the article? EDIT: On the other hand ModDB uses "GoldSource". Thelonesoldier 07:16, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- I think it was ModDB that fooled me. The template has been edited to accept BOTH inputs, as Wikipedia lists both names as valid, but it's obvious that the correct name is GoldSrc - my bad. --MossyBucket (formerly Andreasen) 13:11, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Timeline is incorrect
the timeline on the top of the page shows Goldsource --> source --> source2. Source wasn't made on goldsource, it was made on a separate fork (which wasn't fully goldsource and might've been just tech 2). Source2 was fully made from the ground up and wasn't based on source or goldsource OR Tech 2
- It's a generalization, intended to show succession. Yes, Source 1 was forked from GoldSrc a few weeks before HL1 came out. Even though Source 2 is a radical departure from Source 1, it does use lots of code from Source 1; they just stripped a lot of things out and replaced them wholesale, resulting in an engine that's nigh unrecognizable.
