Yay, I started stuff. --STUART (TALK  ) 17:03, 8 Mar 2006 (PST)

If something on the page is totaly pointless, can it be deleted? Im talking about a duplicate bug being posted. The poster didnt even leave their name. Etalon

If there's no contribution, as in "The text disappears if the link would be viewable" is the submitted one and the new one is "uh liek sum1 screwed upp!!!!!!11 links i cnat see", then yes. However, if it brings new information to light then it should be merged into the existing report. --Alph Tech STUART 22:31, 6 Feb 2006 (PST)

We ought to start a not-an-issue section to move issues to, like the clipboard issue someone reported. EAi 15:19, 7 Feb 2006 (PST)

I do agree, that clipboard "issue" is just cluttering things up. Its obvious there is no problem. Etalon

Biggest annoyance of test... I'm not running the Friends beta anymore - did for a day or two. But my email is in an example screenshot, and people keep trying to add me. Even though I am NOT running Friends beta, i get prompted to accept the connect. People also can send me messages, but I can't reply to them at all. So if someone adds me or messages me and I don't answer, you'll know why :^) --Holtt 08:36, 20 Feb 2006 (PST)

Minidumps building up

In every game's folder a collection of MDMP files are building up, even though the games never crashed. It seems likely they are produced by Friends and explain why it keep locking up temporarily, and probably why it isn't working ingame right now. How many others are getting this problem? I would file it as a bug, but it seems to have coincided with my new router (with the appropriate ports open, unless they've changed in the new version). --TomEdwards 14:28, 8 Feb 2006 (PST)

Reproduced—ts2do 19:15, 8 Feb 2006 (PST)
It's stopped now, must have been a server thing.--TomEdwards 11:03, 10 Feb 2006 (PST)

Table of contents

How can I get the Wiki to display it? I've tried adding some empty sections but that didn't work. —Pizzahut 06:22, 10 Feb 2006 (PST)

It's hidden because it is so huge.--TomEdwards 07:23, 10 Feb 2006 (PST)

Page is ridiculously long

Should build an archive / some other way to divide on multiple pages, Friends_Beta/Your_Title_Here for example. Jupix 02:42, 3 Mar 2006 (PST)

Maybe there should be pages for already fixed bugs and for the stuttering reports. -- Koraktor
How about one additional page for bugs and bug fixes, and another page for suggestions and implemented? --Pizzahut 03:20, 3 Mar 2006 (PST)
This sounds good to me. Friends Beta/Bugs, Friends Beta/Suggestions. What about a separate page for Friends Beta/Updates? Jupix 03:29, 3 Mar 2006 (PST)
I think this page should be considered for this consolidation effort as well: UIBugs. Yes I AM referring to this old page in the previous beta, a bug is a bug, no matter how old. jeradc 08:37, 3 Mar 2006 (PST)
I've done a load of edits and moved the users to test with, march 2nd changelog and fixed issues sections to their own pages. EAi 17:35, 3 Mar 2006 (PST)
Don't quite feel up to it, but someone ought to move the fixed issues downwards after the march 2nd update. EAi 17:41, 3 Mar 2006 (PST)
I moved Bug reports and fixed bugs into their own pages and styled the other links to reach a satisfactory level of consistency. For now, it looks quite good to me. Comments? Also, I'd like to suggest that the release history be reformatted (dates into numeral forms and so on). Furthermore, there's something wrong with the table of contents, it seems to be fixed to its current state and doesn't want to appear automatically if the fixed code is removed. Jupix 03:34, 4 Mar 2006 (PST)
The table of contents is turned off for the page because otherwise it'll get really long. Just modify the fake table of contents manually. Its not ideal, but I don't think you can specify the heading levels that a TOC encompasses. EAi 07:41, 4 Mar 2006 (PST)
I've pretied the page up and generally made links worked and removed redundant TOC entries... Looks much nicer. Give me a prize ;) EAi 08:03, 4 Mar 2006 (PST)
Awesome job, *hands over prize* FishBrainX
Should the "fake" table of contents just be links to the other pages, instead to sections that only contain links to other pages? Either way, the page does look significantly better. jeradc 08:28, 06 Mar 2006 [PST]
I've done this. Looks even better :) EAi 16:36, 6 Mar 2006 (PST)
I've now made the options box into a template and added it to all the beta pages. Looks nice imo :) EAi 16:53, 6 Mar 2006 (PST)
Well done. :) --Pizzahut 04:20, 7 Mar 2006 (PST)
Yeah, looks nice, good job! Jupix 05:19, 7 Mar 2006 (PST)
Yeah, that's the way we do things DOWN TOWN, BOYEE! --Alph Tech STUART 18:17, 7 Mar 2006 (PST)
Done some moving of fixed issues to the correct page and put the table of contents on that page in a scrolling div. Looks somewhat better. I have to say I've enjoyed fidiling with this page during the beta, lets hope there are more like it! EAi 21:09, 10 Mar 2006 (PST)

Priority

I know it is somewhat subjective, but maybe we should build a list of priority issues. Currently the really important issues (like the in-game server browser being tottally screwed in half-life 1 mods) are hidden away in the list of things people have always wanted in Steam... What do people think? EAi

New Hardware Survey

  • How do I get to this? --STUART (TALK  ) 17:04, 8 Mar 2006 (PST)
    • It'll appear if you restart steam with the beta. EAi 19:09, 8 Mar 2006 (PST)
      • Not for me. It eventually appeared, but not for a while.
        • I've had it appear twice, once after the update at the end of last week and once when it was first launched. EAi 14:04, 13 Mar 2006 (PST)

Beta paramaters still required?

Do we still need to run with the beta paramaters, now that there's this opt-in system? --TomEdwards 01:55, 11 Mar 2006 (PST)

No, as of March 13th, the beta parameters do nothing. --Steamfraiser 07:51, 21 Mar 2006 (PST)

Garry's Mod + Update

VALVe's update fixed Garry's mod. However, some users have a few nitpicks of problems. Try the Facepunch Studios Forum For additional patches to fix these minor problems --Steamfraiser 07:51, 21 Mar 2006 (PST)

GAME STILL WONT WORK ><

I have had it!!! For 2 weeks i have tried peridoically tried to get past the same spot and every time iut freezes on me at the exact same place. Its where you open the dam wall, hit the jump on the hovercraft drop down then it loads up the next part of the level. for 2 weeks this part WILL NOT LOAD, during Beta it didnt work, now it doesnt work. Half Life 2 is broken and i refuse to buy any future Valve/Steam products til Half Life is playable. In the friends Beta wiki i listed my specs and ill list them again i meet and go beyond whats required

a Dell Dimension E510 3.0 GHz Processor 1 Gig or Ram a 256Mb X600 Card All the latest Dell drivers, since my PC is only 6 weeks old.

The only game out of the whole GOTY edition that works is CS:S all the others freeze, stutter, and just dont work. Valve has done nothing special here i see than ripped me off 50 bucks. The beta did not fix my problem, and i cant get in touch with anyone there to even attempt to get help the one email i got was so generic, it didnt provide anyhelp whatsoever. I want DOD S, i want RO:S but i refuse to buy something that wont work.

Have you tried contacting Dell? It sounds like there's something wrong with your computer... :-/ —Cargo Cult (info, talk) 07:43, 15 Mar 2006 (PST)
I don't know much about Dell's drivers, but did you try installing the original Catalyst driver from ATI? Other than that I second what Cargo Cult wrote. --Koraktor

Yes because it's completly broken when you are the one having the problem and we can all play fine, check a bit closer to home before having a hissy fit. A computer can be faulty and be only 2 minutes old.

This whole section needs to be moved to the Friends Beta/Bug reports page. Jeradc 09:23, 16 Mar 2006 (PST)

Out of Beta

I'm moving this whole set to just Friends. --Alph Tech STUART 08:03, 4 Jun 2006 (PDT)

  • Why not remove the Beta-Notice (in beta, out of beta) on the top of the Article? --Rotzi 03:45, 14 Feb 2007 (PST)

Steam IM protocol

I'm curious about the protocol Steam IM uses. the Friends/Suggestions page has many of its suggestions labelled "Feature exists in MSN Messenger," which seems to imply that it's MSN. Can anyone confirm? If so, do you know if it uses the standard wire protocol, or if it's been modified? -Ryanb
