I can see that testing Japanese content without any problem. I think it works alright on other Japanese browsers, too. I'm looking forward to what to come.N-neko

- It keeps switching between proper Japanese (or Russian) text and a disintegrated UTF-8 for me - it either displays properly or I get '?¯?·Ñ‹?º?¸'-style junk. This is Safari 2.0 on a Mac, and it normally copes fine with stuff like this. I've checked the HTTP-Equiv stuff in the HTML and the actual HTTP headers and they both report the page as 'text/html; charset=utf-8'...
- Hmm. After a bit of research it appears that, since the site's using XHTML (which is basically XML), each page should open with a '<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>' at the beginning. I've no idea how one would go about fixing MediaWiki's templates (or whatever it uses), but there's a solution. For all one of us who use Macs. :-] ---Cargo Cult 08:37, 11 Aug 2005 (PDT)
- Cargo, can you point me to where the standard for this is explained, or to a site which uses this header correctly? -- Greg
- The W3C's standard has this to say:
- "An XML declaration is not required in all XML documents; however XHTML document authors are strongly encouraged to use XML declarations in all their documents. Such a declaration is required when the character encoding of the document is other than the default UTF-8 or UTF-16 and no encoding was determined by a higher-level protocol."
- So it sounds like Safari's definitely at fault, assuming that this is the cause of the problem. I can report it as a bug to Apple, if you like... ;-] --Cargo Cult 16:19, 11 Aug 2005 (PDT)
- I get the classic microsoft screen full of little boxes :) --Invader Zim
- InvaderZim, what OS & Browser are you using? Thanks, -- Greg
- I'm on windowsXP with Internet Explorer, and by the way it can display that russian stuff from cargo, just not whats on your user page -- InvaderZim
- I get a lot of question marks with some splashings of words like "xbox" - Windows XP - Deer park alpha 2 ^Ben 10:31, 11 Aug 2005 (PDT)
- Having Asian fonts installed is required to see this content correctly. I believe the existing encoding in the page header is correct. If you'd like to try it out, in WindowsXP (sorry, Cargo) go to
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages
and then click the box which reads "Install files for East Asian languages". -- Greg

Deleting
The Candidates for speedy deletion list is getting quite impressive. It might be nice for someone to actually delete the worthless entries. Since I want all available Valve people hard at work on turning out high-quality Half-Life content (<cracks whip>), how about making someone a temporary, limited admin (if such a thing is possible). I volunteer, and promise to behave. If that's too presumptuous, I nominate wisemx or Cargo Cult. —Maven (talk) 13:04, 6 Oct 2005 (PDT)

Bugged pages when past a certain length
On the List of L4D Models page, it goes into blank space past "props_rooftop\acvent03.mdl" (ctrl+f and paste to hop to it) for some reason - but when you edit the page you can see the content past that still exists, just for some reason the wiki isn't showing it
Wikipedia doesn't have this problem dunno if it's a known bug or what, thought you should know --Wikikitty 19:35, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
