This article reviews and compares several map decompilers for the GoldSrc engine. Will introduce 5 decompilers:

  • Decompiler 005
  • WinBSPC
  • BSP2MAP
  • Unified SDK Map Decompiler
  • MBSPC

Map converters such as Crafy and BSPViewer will not be introduced because they are not efficient in producing a quality source file.

4 maps were chosen for decompilation:

  1. bb_chp1_heavensgate from Brain Bread
  2. op4ctf_power from Opposing Force
  3. cz_silo02 from Counter-Strike: Condition Zero Deleted Scenes.
  4. rock2 from Team Fortress: Classic
