Introduction

Before the destruction of the Citadel...

Before Anticitizen One...

Before Gordon Freeman....

In the authoritarian state of City 17 you are a rebel fighter, John Dalton, fighting against the oppression of the Combine and for a better future for the human race. But something is wrong. Haunted by terrifying dreams and unsettling flashbacks, you begin to wonder if there's more to your existence than you initially know. And the Combine are always hot on your heels wherever they tread.

They storm your hideout, without warning, without discrimination and with deadly precision. You are captured and transported to a secret Combine facility to be assimilated into a soldier. However, the process goes awry and you escape.

Mistaken by rebels for the enemy, hunted by the Combine as a failed experiment and forever haunted by unsettling memories, you are now on a quest for redemption. What is left for you now? Is there anywhere you can ever be safe? Will you ever find acceptance and discover your true story?

There is more to everything than there initially seems...

They don't want you to know what you are...
