Art of Ascension is a free RPG modification for Half-Life 2. Art of Ascension combines the spirit of online role playing games with the faster battling pace of classical first-person shooters.
At first glance, Art of Ascencion is deceptively simple. You begin gameplay just as in any HL2:DM game, i.e you spawn in, you have a spawn weapon and you attempt to kill your various opponents. But you immediately notice a couple of things: 1)Your beginning weapon set is weaker than normal. 2)Your opponents appear to be kicking your tush all over the place. And you ask yourself, how did that guy kill me so fast?
As you continue playing, and gaining kills, you eventually notice the game state that you just ascended to Level 1. You patiently sit through the explanation that some helpful soul provides you with. Then you put the weapon and attribute points you just obtained into the weapons and attributes of your choice respectively. You'll notice a marked improvement in your damage dealing potential, and possibly also notice an immediate change in the gaining of a special ability, more hit points or suit energy or some similar benefit.
Rinse, Repeat.
Deceptively simple? Sure. Insanely fun in the long run? Definitely.
How can I become an AOA champion?
- Kill opponents to gain experience points (XP)
- Dedicate time to play and level up your character
- Gain points for character attributes and weapons
- Upgrade your weapon and select from special abilities
Basic Character building
If you really want to be an AOA champion, you gotta have thick skin. And with weapons doing well over your base spawn hp, You'll want to upgrade your max hp to a higher level so u can take more damage and live longer.
Invest some points into stamina(Not currently implimented)for the health resist. it will go hand in hand with your max hp.
Upgrading Intelligence is a good idea. It allows your armor to be more effective during attack. Increasing your max ap might be a good idea too, if you ever plan on lasting in battle.
How much to upgrade, and when to upgrade is all up to you.
(Can someone edit this please? the whole "upgrade max HP" thing seems very much a bias based on the current imbalance of the stat. If we start openly admitting that you need it to play, we might lose sight of the fact that we're not supposed to. -JJ10DMAN)
Hints, Tips And Tricks
(These are in no particular order of significance.)
When your level 0-5 try changing your skin into the all white combine skin, Higher levels MAY have pitty on you.
Try varying your respawn weapon with aoa_spawn_weapon (weapon name) and see what works best for you.
Have a stratagy plan on leveling up your character.
You might find in game objects to be combesome to manuever around, try jumping then while in air press your duck key, this brings your feet up, allowing greater clearance over those objects your getting caught on.
