Good concept, flawed execution
The problem with the message template is that it only works properly for linear discussions, and has to be manually typed out if replying to a message from a topic other than the one at the end of the page. Non-linear discussions like the "universal method" example are much more complicated when relying upon MediaWiki templates.
Ideally something like PCGamingWiki's talk pages would be executed site-side using JS or something, but that's never going to happen.
