A general tip for taking pictures is that a white background works much better than a black one, because it blends in with the rest of the page. (I believe there's a texture simply called "light" or "white" that I used when I took the physical entity pictures you see in the wiki, that's even self-illuminating in-game.) --MossyBucket (formerly Andreasen) 03:38, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Improvement drive?
Uploading Images / validating account question
With the release of Portal 2 less than two months away, I suspect we're headed for a surge in wiki use in a few months. I think Msleeper already expressed his desire to launch a Portal 2 mapping article collaboration sometime soon. I was thinking, before we get that surge of new users, it might be good to try and launch an "improvement drive" and attempt to get active users to put a lot of effort into a wiki-wide cleanup.
I've received the following error when looking at the "How to upload an image" page on the wiki.

My idea is that a few of us draft up a project page which highlights some major goals for the project, such as taking care of articles in the stub/cleanup/merge categories. Another big problem is the high number of orphan articles which are only categorized and will vary rarely be clicked on. I think we could use some "list" articles (a good example list would be a page listing all the third party tools sorted into groups, with a brief summary of each tool. This would be infinitely more useful than :Category:Third Party Tools). Maybe we could even get the admins to delete some of the articles in the deletion backlog!

Return to Main Page.

One we finished the draft, we could create an official page for it, perhaps get an admin to put it at the top of the main page. Everyone would be free to contribute ideas to the improvement drive and hopefully everyone would be willing to put some hard work in.
I thought I had validated my email when I first made my account. I noticed that you cleaned up the CS:GO "creating a mini map page" that I created and started working on with my friend Liam (Loothelion). I'd like to continue  writing that page and add some helpful reference images. Do you have any advice or can you point me to someone who might be able to help me figure this out?

Thoughts? Would you be interested in this? Thelonesoldier 08:28, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Uploading Images / validating account question

I've received the following error when looking at the "How to upload an image" page on the wiki.

Permission error The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups: Autoconfirmed users, Administrators. Return to Main Page.

I can't personally help you, I'm just another contributor. Since you say you already validated your email, this is an odd occurrence. But a little bit of research tells me that to be an autoconfirmed user, your account must be at least four days old with at least ten previous edits. I could be wrong, however; not all wikis may have the same protocol. I'd try going with that, and if all else fails, try asking an active administrator (JeffLane) for help. Best of luck. —Mattshu 20:13, 26 July 2013 (PDT)
