Voice advise section?

I do a lot of faceposing for people who try extensive accents and fast talking. IT DOESN'T WORK. Somewhere in here, it should advise voice actors to talk calmly and smoothly, don't slur words, and speak with firm enunciation.--Katana314 14:21, 5 Feb 2007 (PST)

Those are good guidelines in general, but remember that it is possible to manually create phonemes if you can't get the extractor to work with your dialogue. I'm really going to have to write that lip synching page! --TomEdwards 09:43, 6 Feb 2007 (PST)

This actor = this entity

I'm probably being stupid. Where/how does one specify which actor in the VCD is connected to which NPC-entity in the map? —Yar Kramer 21:48, 17 Nov 2007 (PST)

First item here. I've made the heading a little clearer to prevent this problem in the future. :-) --TomEdwards 01:51, 18 Nov 2007 (PST)
Okay, then ... I guess I'm doing something else wrong, because I'm doing my darnedest to set up a scene where the G-Man (from an inaccessible room) steps forward, adjusts his tie, and then just stands there watching you until you leave the current area, but it's not working for some reason — he just stands there looking around randomly. It doesn't seem that the scene is even being triggered, because for testing purposes I had him say one of GLaDOS's lines.
I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I'm using a couple hint-nodes around him instead of normal ones ... and I have a feeling that, once I get this figured out, it's going to be so obvious I'll be kicking myself. —Yar Kramer 20:41, 18 Nov 2007 (PST)
Nodes make no difference. Are you sure that the LCS is receiving the input? Try turning on the dev console and pasting the relevant output here. --TomEdwards 06:41, 19 Nov 2007 (PST)
Aha, there's the problem even before I triggered it! I forgot to put the VCD into scenes.image! —Yar Kramer 13:51, 19 Nov 2007 (PST)
As far as I'm aware, there's no way for us to build that file yet. You'll have to revert to the ep1 engine for now. --TomEdwards 13:53, 19 Nov 2007 (PST)
... and since this is specifically a mod for Portal, that means I get to put the whole project on hold! Arrgh ... —Yar Kramer 13:57, 19 Nov 2007 (PST)

Scene 'scenes\lp_hurricaaane\b00_entry.vcd' missing!

Hi, I'm trying to integrate a custom scene file to make GlaDOS speak. But it just doesn't want to find the file in game. The file is detected in the scenes of Hammer. I even tried to copy a original scene file without modifying it and rename it, and it doesn't want to find it neither. I tried to associate it with the BSP but not. What should I do? Thanks.--Hurricaaane 07:05, 21 Nov 2007 (PST)

Hello.
i ran into the same problems for my little map and the only solutions are: put your custom vcd into the scene.images. somehow. no idea how, seems it isnt supported yet or not wanted. or using the good ol' way of merging sounds by yourself. which sucks thou, choreo scenes are so much better (smaller, easier to merge, they support any language by default and so on). Puchi 07:20, 21 Nov 2007 (PST)
There's no way of doing it at all right now. You'll have to revert your mod to the ep1 engine. I've added a warning to the page about it! --TomEdwards 09:11, 21 Nov 2007 (PST)
Thanks for the answer. Actually the mod I'm trying to create custom scenes in is Portal. You know what I mean...--Hurricaaane 10:07, 21 Nov 2007 (PST)
See above; I'm having the exact same problem. —Yar Kramer 12:03, 21 Nov 2007 (PST)

Hmm. I wonder if it's worth it to copy the "can't make scenes.image" banner into a template, and put it in the other scene-related articles ... —Yar Kramer 15:32, 22 Nov 2007 (PST)

How can I revert my mod to the ep1 engine? I really want to give a try at scene making but can't right now. - Arhurt 16:44, 3 Dec 2007 (PST)
"-engine ep1" heh just found it - Arhurt 17:44, 3 Dec 2007 (PST)
For a quick fix, if you have access to the Garry's Mod 2007 beta (which runs on the Source 2007 engine), Garry has written his own interface for loading scenes both from scene.image and from custom scenes on the fly. So pretty much you can load up your portal map in Garry's mod and your vcd files should now play. It's not perfect but at least it works around some things. --Mystfit 20:29, 16 Dec 2007 (PST)

Sentences

Is it possible to use a line from sentences.txt in a VCD? —Yar Kramer 19:30, 19 Dec 2007 (PST)

I'm not familiar with that system at all, but I'd say no. Look for them in the soundscripts, or create a new entry if they aren't there (they should be). --TomEdwards 00:40, 20 Dec 2007 (PST)

WAV Corruption

I'm currently experiencing a big problem with FacePoser : whenever I try to lipsync some NPCs over a couple of WAV files, FacePoser keeps corrupting the files (Wave PCM signed 16 bits, 44100 Hz, 705 kbps, mono). I don't think I'm doing something wrong, just popping up the Phoneme Editor, clicking on Auto-Extract, saving, and that's it. When I reload the VCD file, FacePoser crashes, and if I load the game, it crashes too. When I try to open back the file in a sound editor, it just crashes saying that the file was corrupted and that its headers doesn't match the file size.

I know that FacePoser is adding phoneme content at the end of the WAV file, but, shouldn't it change the header fields of the WAV file ? The strange thing is that it's not systematic. Sometimes it works, sometimes not... Anyone knows why it does that, or even how to avoid it ? --NykO18 13:36, 26 Jul 2008 (PDT)

Play Everywhere

Is there any way of getting a choreography-sound to behave like an ambient_generic set "play everywhere" except that it pauses when the player pauses the game? I.e. unaffected by the current atmosphere/echoes and, if the player is hit by an explosion, without the player being deafened to the music as well as the normal sounds. I have this brilliant plan of creating background music using choreography which can either (a) synch to the action, or (b) loop without creating a 50-megabyte WAV file (although in the latter case I haven't tried setting a START-cue in an MP3 with GoldWave ...) —Yar Kramer 07:43, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Making the scene play & unable to extract phonemes

Is there anyway to make the scene play in the 3D view screen? I can find any controls to make it play...  :'( Also every time I try to extract phoneme data from .wav file (Using all the parameters specified by the wiki article in audacity), it says that there is an error. ALWAYS. And it DOES play the file when I hit play. I haven't found a way around this. I speak clearly and enunciate. I have tried it with 12 different .wav files. I would really appreciate any help offered. -Darth Haxor

I figured out that the UI Icons in faceposer are broken by reading one of the VDC pages. I also found out that Vista doesn't let you use The Speech SDK 5.1 so you have to use XP. So, never mind... -Darth Haxor
