Talk:List of L4D Models
Idk about you guys, but I think these pages that list models are real stupid and a waste. 1. NO ONE will ever look at it, they'll just look themselves in hammer. 2. What actual usefulness does it provide? 3. What about future L4D updates that will most likely add new models, no one ever updates this list, they just give up. Real pointless article and should just be deleted IMHO. --Craziestdan 12:15, 31 Dec 2008 (PST)
- not everyone uses "hammer", this is also for people who like to pseudo-mod the game within it by spawning objects and rotating, creating zombie hordes etc kinda like garrys mod
- and also, the L4D SDK isn't out yet so you can't view any of this normally --Wikikitty 12:32, 31 Dec 2008 (PST)
- You can view the models if your using a custom SDK. And you can view the models when your using the real SDK. No one will use this page at all. Not even Gmod players lol. --Craziestdan 13:20, 31 Dec 2008 (PST)
- wanna bet? 4,301 views one of the most on the forums, people will use this! --Wikikitty 15:52, 31 Dec 2008 (PST)
- I'd rather not argue with the stupidity that has been shone here. Deletion.--Gear 15:59, 31 Dec 2008 (PST)

- As a further note, these kind of things don't belong on the Wiki, perhaps on Facepunch instead.--Gear 16:02, 31 Dec 2008 (PST)
- Agreed. besides, he's the one taking it to an argument. I'm just saying what everyone does on this wiki when pages are made. @wikikitty, L4D level creation isn't for Gmod :p --Craziestdan 17:24, 31 Dec 2008 (PST)
I used this article while mapping for L4d. It saves me the time of waiting on hammer to load a thousand models into the model viewer. CTRL+F For the win.--Hungsolo 18:02, 31 Dec 2008 (PST)
- You can see a list of models by opening the GCF (in this case an NCF), this list is thus unneeded. If you really want to make maps using L4D models, you can do the effort of checking in Hammer. Solokiller 04:53, 1 Jan 2009 (PST)
I am using it for my fort scripts as it is much easier then opening the GCFs and I have to intention of performing the Hammer working around if I don't intend to map. So PLEASE this is a useful page.-Dusty 9:49, 1 Jan 2009
- What makes me laugh is, what use is this list if it doesn't even have pictures?? In hammer you can view pictures. Maybe we should just not list this under the L4D main level creation page, because ANYONE making a map for L4D will just use hammer. I've never heard of a mapper look for props to place in his map and going "Hmm, idk what to use, I know, I'll check the wiki for a list of un-pictured models, that'll really help me decide". Seriously. --Craziestdan 07:57, 1 Jan 2009 (PST)
Several users have stated a reasonable case for why they find this information useful as posted here, and some have stated that they will not use it. I agree that this will likely be out-of-date if not kept up and has a limited lifespan. However, I don't see the harm in it remaining here for now as long as some find it valuable. Some of the objections stated so far have been superficial and generally hostile without any cause. I'm going to remove the delete tag for now, although anyone is welcome to continue the discussion if they can do it clearly and civilly. --JeffLane 12:55, 1 Jan 2009 (PST)
- I still feel that it's redundant having a list here, this never happened for Portal Half Life 2, or TF2. It be better if perhaps the list had more of the useful models. Simply the Cinematic animation ones. Otherwise a lot of these models are from CSS, DOD, or Half Life 2, meaning they can easily be placed into a L4D map. Lastly the fact that this list exists and the SDK doesn't should be reason enough not to have it. Then again I do suppose that it truly doesn't hurt, although the size of the page is fairly large.--Gear 16:11, 2 Jan 2009 (PST)
- Agreed. I guess it should stay to keep the peace, but it should have more effort in it. Like, maybe categorise it. Because listed models like error.mdl aren't exactly useful... So he should list them in order of things like, static, physics, gameplay, animations etc. --Craziestdan 17:10, 2 Jan 2009 (PST)
Finding a list of L4D models on the valve developer wiki would be easier then going onto hammer, and since it's on the internet, you can CTRL+F to find things on the page. For example, if you want to find a fence model, you would CTRL+F and type in 'Fence' and it would easily pop up. Although some people don't have much experience with Hammer, they can go onto the internet, look at the list, and done! There are other reasons people would want L4D models besides making maps if you know what I mean....and pictures isn't really necessary. Although it'd be a good edition...
