Talk:Making Your Portal Mod
Why does this page need cleaning up? WHats wrong with it.
- grammar, the view, and the formatting.--Gear 11:46, 11 Jun 2008 (PDT)
What is wrong with the grammar. I don't see anything, and why don't you fix it then.
Was it you who deleted it? I sent ages making that thing, and you just delete it from the list.
- chill man, its not that you spent ages on it, but all this can already be done by making a mod, and just changing the gameinfo.txt, there is absolutely no reason to use GCFscape or anything else, you should find out more about mod making and it's process before you start making tutorials on the wiki.I'm saying to delete this page mainly because its an amount of information not needed on something already covered. This is like making a mod named Portal, nothing different.Sorry man, I know you spent alot of time on this, but you need to search the Wiki first!--Gear 14:39, 27 Jun 2008 (PDT)
Right i understand, i dont mind it being deleted then, but my Portal mod template i made for Portal here: Portal mod template should be left alone. And if you feel a mod template is useless, then why is this one allowed here? I would apreciate it if you left the portal mod template alone, as it doesnt provide usefullness. And has already had quite a few downloads, proving its needed. Some people dont know how to make mod folders manually, with GCF scape and stuff, so the portal mod tmeplate should be left there. But this page, feel free to delete, just please leave the template. Dan.S 23:25, 27th Jun 2008 (GMT)
I have found this resource to be indispensable in creating of a mod version of Portal: The Flash Version Map-Pack. I think that this article should be cleaned, reformatted, and retained in the Developer Wiki and not deleted. --Nz17 22:57, 4 Jul 2008 (PDT)
- Glad to hear Nz17 :) Portal TFV is a fun pack, and i always thought it should be put in a mod, rather then a large map pack. Nice job :) -When i get time ill try to clean this up a bit, but anyone else feel free to do so too. --Dan.S 16:00 6 Jul 2008 (GMT)
Did anyone else here see an error in "Setting up Source SDK to work with your mod"? The problem is, you had the GameData0 set to halflife2.fgd, which means people wouldn't be able to place stuff in source SDK like a portalgun, autoportals, and all that stuff.--Paddymay 22:57, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
No worries though, I just fixed that section.--Paddymay 22:57, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm gonna try to simplify this later today. --Omnicoder 10:30, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
I just practically rewrote the thing. It's up to someone else to decide whether it's good enough.
I got rid of the use of GCFScape. --Anotheruser67 09:34, 15 December 2011 (PDT)
What is this part saying you cannot modify binaries? When creating the mod, the source files are copied to the selected directory and can be edited and recompiled. --Pichubolt090 12:52, 6 April 2012 (PDT)
- You can't get the source code for the Portal binaries, only for out-of-date builds of Half-Life 2. Also, this tutorial doesn't use the Mod Wizard; I've never been able to get it to work with Portal, anyway. --Anotheruser67 22:06, 23 July 2012 (PDT)
Just make a edit to organize stuff up and some other minor edits. :) --A R M YD E L A Y (Talk!) 13:10, 18 July 2012 (PDT)
