Dune Online

It all begins at the end of Frank Herberts "Dune". The known universe is in turmoil, Paul Mua'dib has overthrown the ruthless padishah emporer and is reshaping the monopoly on the spice melange. In the wake of the usurp, a jihad has begun; a holy war that will span the collection of civilized planets.

You arrive on Arrakis only to find that little has changed on the surface of war. The Great Houses remain intact, and continue to exploit the resources this planet has. Only you can transform what has already been set in motion; as a hero, or a villain.



Objective:

    Online RPG/FPS aimed at providing an MMO enviroment in the first-person prespective


Gameplay:

    An option will be provided to choose from 5 character classes (all with pros and cons)
    
    A standard RPG system will be incorporated ( like the ability to level-up Strength, Agility, ect)
    A wide variety of weapons and armor will be available based on the users stats
    Quest based "mission farming" from multiple sources, in an open, free-roam enviroment
    The ability to party up with friends to make the gameplay more challenging and offer cooperative gameplay
    Other options will be: Casino-style Gambling, PvP in a FPS arena with leaderboards, Online bazaar for buy/sell (sort of like ebay, with stores and private sellers. It will give a reason to sell a rare item to try and get a high price with in game credits of course).  The idea of the extracurricular activities is to let people take a chance at making money rather than forcing the "quest farming" down their throat.  So you can level up and gain credits by arena fighting and gambling rather than the standard gameplay.
   Vehicles will be available for a price to make world map exploration easier
   Weapon loadout will be a primary (rifle, shotty, sniper, ect.) Secondary (pistols and such.)  and a melee weapon (which can also be bought and sold)


Final Note:

   The Mod is aimed at a year long production and then into beta (I doubt I can pull that off by myself).  So I'm looking for dedicated people who want serious portfolio material...

Programmers Artists (familiar with Softimage products) Level Designers Writers for text Dialogue or voice Dialogue (havent decided how much time I want to spend in that department) :P

Note: The legalities havent been thoroughly worked out about using Frank Herberts wonderful book "Dune" as the base of the mod yet, but I am working hard on it.
