  • Mainly, NPC squads consist of Player-friendly allies that can be commanded, grouped, and assigned objectives.

Controlling a Squad

The maximum amount of NPCs a player can have in a Squad is 4. However that does not include other NPCs, such as important game-ending allies (e.g. Alyx), so you can control 4 Squadmates and player important allies at the same time.

Also, note the small bar to the lower left of the screen. This bar represents how many members are left in your Squad, and if any are medics. Medics will have a cross symbol above their icon.

Note.pngNote:If a squad member dies, a new npc will automatically join the Squad when near the player. If there are none around then the Squad will stay the same.

Commanding a Squad

You can command all the members of a Squad to a certain point by pressing the C key and pointing to the area with your crosshair. To regroup your Squad to your current position, double press the C key. Usually NPCs can't be commanded too far from the player.
