Keyvalue type set to normal on the left and heat wave on the right side.

Template:Base point It is used to create a jet of steam, or heat wave distortion.

The entity appears as a cone in Hammer, the shape indicates the direction the emitter outputs the particles (away from the point).

Keyvalues

Initial State ([todo internal name (i)]) <choices>
Start enabled?
  • 0 : Off
  • 1 : On
Particle Type ([todo internal name (i)]) <choices>
Steam effect type, see image on the top right.
  • 0 : Normal
  • 1 : Heat Wave
Spread Speed ([todo internal name (i)]) <integer>
The amount of random spread in the particle's velocity after they spawn.
Speed ([todo internal name (i)]) <integer>
The default speed at which the particles move after they spawn.
Particle start size ([todo internal name (i)]) <integer>
The initial size of the particles after they spawn.
Particle end size ([todo internal name (i)]) <integer>
The size of the particles at the point at which they are removed.
Emission rate ([todo internal name (i)]) <integer>
The rate of particle emission. i.e. particles per second.
Color (R G B) ([todo internal name (i)]) <color255>
Steam color, only used if Emissive flag is set.
Length of steam jet ([todo internal name (i)]) <integer>
The length of the jet determines the lifetime of each particle.
Translucency ([todo internal name (i)]) <integer>
Render alpha value.
How fast does the particles spin ([todo internal name (i)]) <float>
Particle roll speed.
Name (targetname) <string>[ Edit ]
The name that other entities refer to this entity by, via Inputs/Outputs or other keyvalues (e.g. parentname or target).
Also displayed in Hammer's 2D views and Entity Report.

Parentname:
Parent (parentname) <targetname>
Specifies a movement parent. An entity will maintain its initial offset from its parent. An attachment point can be added to the end of the name, separated by a comma.
Pitch Yaw Roll (Y Z X) (angles) <QAngle>
This entity's orientation in the world. Pitch is rotation around the Y axis, yaw is the rotation around the Z axis, roll is the rotation around the X axis.

Flags

  • 1 : Emissive
Use the value specified in the rendercolor keyvalue. (If not checked, it will instead get the rendercolor from the environment.)
Icon-Bug.pngBug:In Alien Swarm the env_steam entity will always render white steam if map is compiled with vrad.  [todo tested in ?]

Inputs

TurnOn
Turns the steam jet on.
TurnOff
Turns the steam jet off.
Toggle
Toggles the steam jet between on and off.
JetLength <integerRedirectInput/integer>
Sets the length of steam jet.
Rate <integerRedirectInput/integer>
Sets the particle emission rate in particles per second.
Speed <integerRedirectInput/integer>
Sets the default speed of the particles in units per second.
SpreadSpeed <integerRedirectInput/integer>
Sets the spread speed in units per second.

Parentname:
SetParent <stringRedirectInput/string>
Move with this entity. See Entity Hierarchy (parenting).
SetParentAttachment <stringRedirectInput/string>
Change this entity to attach to a specific attachment point on its parent. The entity will teleport so that the position of its root bone matches that of the attachment. Entities must be parented before being sent this input.
SetParentAttachmentMaintainOffset <stringRedirectInput/string>
As above, but without teleporting. The entity retains its position relative to the attachment at the time of the input being received.
ClearParent
Removes this entity from the the movement hierarchy, leaving it free to move independently.
